UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BURGESS WV. WITT AND GUS ECKEL, OF JEFFERSON CITY, TENNESSEE.
DESIGN FOR A POSTA L CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,418, dated December 10, 1901.
Application filed October 22, 1901. Serial No. 79,606. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that We, BURGESS W. WITT and GU s EOKEL, citizens of the United States, residing at Jefferson City, in the county of J eiferson and State of Tennessee, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Postal Case, of which the following is a specification.
The leading and characteristic feature of our invention is the design for a postal case made the subject of the illustration in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my postal case with the cover shown as being in elevated position; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, the coven shown as being closed.
As shown in said drawings, the back 1 of the case is fiat and has secured to the edges thereof the sides 2. Each of said sides is cut away at two points, as shown, to form the shoulders 3 and 4 and the longitudinally-extending edges 5 and 6. The shoulders 3 and 4 on one side lie directly opposite to the corresponding shoulders 3 and 4.011 the other side, and the edges 5 and 6 are parallel to each other and to the plane of the back 1. The edge 7 of each of the sides 2 is parallel to the back 1 and has secured to it what maybe termed a front proper, 8, the said front proper being formed integral with the back 1, the material of which the said back is made being bent around the sides 2 and forming the bottom 9 and the front proper, 8. The said front proper, S, terminates at its upper end in line with the shoulders 3 of the sides 2.
Connecting the edges 5 of the sides 2, lying parallel to the from 8 and extending from the shoulders 4 down to the bottom 9, is a partition or diaphragm 10, which forms,
with the front 8 and the sides 2, a compartment 11, which may be used for the reception of postal cards and the like. Connecting the edges 5 of the sides 2, lying parallel to the partition 10, and the front 8 and extending from the upper ends of the sides 2 to the bottom 9, is a diaphragm or partition 12. This partition forms, with the partition 10 and the sides 2, a compartment 13, and also forms, with the back 1 and the sides 2, a compartment 14.
For closing the case I provide a cover 15, which is integral with the back 1 and, in fact, formsa continuation of the same. This cover extends when the case is in its closed position down to a point intermediate the ends of the front 8 and has secured to the opposite side edges thereof supplemental closingflaps 16, which when the case is closed over lap and lie parallel with the sides 2 at their upper ends. A clasp or locking device 17 is secured to the front 1, and the cover 15 is provided with an opening 18 for cooperation with said clasp. A snap-hook 19 is also secured to the upper end of the case, as shown.
Having now described our invention, What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a postal case, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
BURGESS W. \VITT. GUS ECKEL.
