GEORGE MAURER, OF FRANKENLUST TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN.
DESIGN FOR A HOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Design No. 34,966, dated August 20, 1901.
Application filed May 24, 1901- Serial No. 61,813. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom, it may concern:
Beit known thatI, GEORGE MAURER, a citizen of the United States, residing in Frankenlust township, in the county of Bay and State of Michigan, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Hoes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
My invention relates toa new and original design for hoes for thinning and weeding sugar-beets and similar plants and is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the hoe. Fig. 2 is a section on the line a: a; of Fig. 1.
This design relates to the form or configuration of the hoe and is characterized by the contour and relative arrangement of the surfaces comprising it.
The hoe consists, as regards its configuration, of a flat blade 1, with a straight cutting edge 1 in front and an upwardly-extending flange or wing 2 of distinguishing shape at each side. The flanges 2 are bent up at right angles and their forward ends project beyond andin front of the cutting edge 1 of the blade. The projecting ends 2 of the flanges are beveled to form forwardly projecting pointed cutting-blades 2, their lower edges 2 being sharpened. The rear parts of the flanges 2 are cut away on curves 2,which merge into the blade at its back.
By the design above described I have produced a beet-thinning hoe that is 1ight,stron g, and of neat and pleasing appearance.
I claim The design for a hoe, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' GEORGE MAURER.
