UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMELIA I1. STElVART, OF MARTINSBURG, VEST VIRGINIA.
DESIGN FOR A SHIELD OR PROTECTOR FOR LADIES SHlRT-wAlSTSi SPECIFICATION forming art of Design No. 29,952, dated January 3, 1899.
Application filed December 6,1898a Serial No. 698,476. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AMELIA L. STEWART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Martinsburgyin the county of Berkeley and State of Vest Virginia, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Back Shield or Protector for Ladies Shirt-\Vaists, of which the following is a specificationa My invention relates toanew and improved design for a back shield or protector for ladies shirt-waists, and is illustrated in the accon1= panying drawing, in which the figure is a perspective view.
The leading feature of my design consists in a back shield or protector for ladies shirtwaists consisting of a thin body widened intermediate its top and bottom edges, having its sides converging from said widened portion downwardly to its bottom on slightlycurved lines, the extremities of the converging sides being joined by a substantially straight bottom having laterally-extending tapes. The sides of the protector extend upwardly from said widened portion in curved lines, the upper portion of the body being cut away, except at its sides, to form top side projections, from which extend tapes.
In the said drawing the reference-numeral 1 indicates the body of the shield or protector, having the widened part 2 intermediate its top and bottom. From this widened part the sides of the body converge downwardly in slightly-curved lines 3 to the bottom, which is substantially straight, as at 4:, and has laterally-extending tapes 5 0. The sides of the body extend upwardly from the widened por tion 2 in curved lines 7, and the top portion of said body is cut away, as at 8, to provide top side projections 9, as shown, from which tapes 10 11 extend.
My design presents a shirt-waist shield or protector of new and distinguished appearance.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is-- The design for a shield or protector for ladies shirt-waists, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit= nesses.
AMELIA L. STEWART,
Witnesses H. H. EMMERT, WM. T; STEWART.
