DESIGN FOR A LAMP-CHIMNEY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,183, dated January 18, 1898.
Application filed December 18, 1897. Serial No. 662,492. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERsKINE J. S. VAN IIOUTEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nyack, in the county of Rockland and State of New York, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Lamp-Chimneys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof, and representing the chimney in side View.
The leading features of my design are the vase-shaped body, the outwardly-flared lower edge or base, and the upwardly-projectin g cylindrical top of less diameter than the body, joining the latter by easy curves.
The body (marked A) swells upwardly to a line about two-thirds its height, at which point the diameter is greatest. Thence the outline draws inward on quicker curves, flowing gracefully into the contracted cylindrical top portion B, forming about one-quarter of the entire height of the chimney. The extreme lower edge or base of the body is flared outwardly, as indicated at G, and the cylindrical top is ornamented with an annular bead D, having a conical or upwardly and inwardly inclined upper face.
The shape of the chimney is an adaptation from the classic-vase form and offers apeouliarly graceful and artistic outline, which is emphasized when in place upon a lamp or burner harmonizing therewith.
