DESIGN FOR A DiSH.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,167, dated June 8, 1897.

To all whom it 11m concern.-

Be it known that 1, JOHN J. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New J ersey, have invented a new and original Ornament to be Placed on a Piece of Crockery; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention consists of a new and original ornament for an article of m anufactureviz., a dish.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of a plate upon which has been printed or painted my new ornament, the same being repeated around the edge of the plate and forming a rich and elegant effect. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a jug or ewer upon which has also been printed or painted my new ornament, the same being arranged at the upper and lower parts of the body, as shown, and being repeated as often as desired.

The leading features of my design are as follows: From a trunk or mid-rib a, which itself consists of a double reversed curve, there spring at b to the right a group 0 of delicate leavcd branches terminating in convcntionalizcd stellate flowers and to the left a branch subdivided into a group of leavcd twigs (l, displaying similar conventionalized stellate flowers, and a group 0, consisting of a flower resembling a tiger-lily supporting a branch resembling a lily of the valley. Atf there spring from the mid-rib a scroll g to the right and a smaller scroll 71 to the left, while in front and to the left it supports a group of leaved twigs 1'. At the right of the mid-rib and continuing nearly to its extremity is a group of ovoid truncated scallops Beneath and to the left of the first concave section of the mid-rib is a small scroll 7;, between which and the mid-rib is a group of small circles Z. Along the outer edge of the design is a series of small and delicate radial lines, as m.

\Vhat I claim as new is- The design for the ornamentation of a dish or like article, substantially as shown and described.
