DESIGN.
B. C. BROWN.
BUCKLE.
Patented Apr. 6,1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN O. BROWN, OF ORESTON, IOWVA, ASSIGNOR OF TIVO-TIIIRDS TO J OI'IN M. HAYS AND JOHN COAN, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,863, dated April 6, 1897.
Application filed February 3, 1897. Serial No. 621,894. Term of patent '7 years.
To a whmn zit puny concern.-
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN C. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ores ton, in the county of Union and State of Iowa,
have invented a certain new, useful, and original shape of Buckle, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad therein to the accompanying drawings.
The shape and configuration of the buckle 1o constituting the article of manufacture shown in the accompanying drawings are especially applicable to harness, and are therefore shown in connection with a harness-strap in Figure 1; in the detached perspective view in Fig.
2; and the end view in Fig. 3, fully illustrating the design and application of my invention.
On the accompanying drawings like reference-letters indicate corresponding parts, and
Figs. 1 and 2 represent perspective and edge views, respectively.
The leading features in the buckle of my design are the duplicate arrangement of the open clips, and the tongue of the buckle lo- 2 5 cated perpendicularly to the inserted straps,
and the intermediate side clips.
Referring to the drawing Fig. 1, the letter A designates the tongue of the buckle, lo-
I cated substantially midway of the clips 13 B,
0 passing transversely across the inserted strap, but open at one side, as shown. At this open side of the end clips B, and located between.
them, appear side clips D D, embracing merely the edge of the strap. The end clips B B form cross-bands, and their function is to 5 maintain the strap close to the body-plate a, from which rises the tongue A in the middle. The end clips 13 B at the ends, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, are lateral extensions of the plate a.
The function of the side clips D D is to prevent lateral displacement of the inserted strap until itbe lifted above the middle clips and the tongue, whereupon the strap may be readily slid edgewise through the open portion of the end clips.
Figs. 1 and 2 show that the buckle is in duplicate above and below the bod y-plate a, the open sides of the end clips and their opposing edge clips, intermediately located, being at the opposite edge of the body-plate a. Thus the inserted strap on the other side of the body-plate presents the same appearance and operates in the same way for disengagement as the strap upon the top side.
\Vhat I claim is- The design for a buckle substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN C. BROIVN.
