Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN T. CURRAN, on BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR T0 TIFFANY a 00., on NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,830, dated October 10, 1893.
Application filed August 28, 1893. Serial No. 484,238. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN T. UURRAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, Kings county, State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Handles of Spoons, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a front view of a spoon showing my design, and Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof.
My design is intended to be wrought into or imparted to the handle of the spoon, and its leading feature consists in the waved coutour of the side edges of the stern of the handle, and a shield-like portion surrounded by an open Work of ornamental scrolls at the top of the handle.
The front or obverse and back or reverse of the stem of the handle are substantially alike.
A is the stem, and a, b are the waved edges thereof. These edges are ornamented by waving lines a, b wrought in the handle and following the adjoining edges. Between the outward edges thereof are open scroll-like ornaments.
B is the shield, being pointed at its upper and lower ends and curved at its sides. It is surrounded on each side by a curved rim 0, following the contour of the shield. These rims C approach each other below the shield, and unite with the stem of the handle. They also approach each other above the shield and bend back in a revolute c. In the revolute is an ornamental apex d. Extending outward from the shield and curving upward over and around the rims is a series of tentacle-like ornaments c. On the face of the handle these tentacles extend from the shield, disappearing behind the rims, and appear again upon the faces of the rims in graceful scrolls. 0n the back of the handle the scrolls of these tentacles disappear behind the rims.
Vthat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In the design for a spoon handle, the obverse substantially as shown.
2. In the design for a spoon-handle, the reverse substantially as shown.
3. The design fora spoon-handle consisting of the design substantially as shown.
