Description

OF I) 229088 DESIGN.
A. CASIRAGHI.
Patented Dec. 27, 1892.
mania? oak-W UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUSTUS CASIRAGIII, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,088, dated December 27, 1892.
Application filed November 2, 1892. Serial No. 1.249. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS UASIRAGI-ll, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Design for Chairs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a chair showing my design: Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
The leading feature of my design consists more particularly in the shape or configuration of the several elements as herein shown.
Each side rail A is substantially square in cross section just above the seat with the inner edge sharp and the three outer edges rounded, but near the top of the back the section is substantially circular with a sharp inneredge. Thecrosssection changes greatly between the two points mentioned from the first cross section just described to the other. Toward the top of the chair back each rail is formed with a sharp re-ent-rant angle as shown at a in Fig. 1, and is continued thence in the substantially circular curve until it meets the middle plate B of the back.
Each arm 0 has a knob c at its point of union with the side rail Aand another 0' at its point of union with the side frame D. Between these two knobs the arm is substantially circular in cross section, except at the arm rest 0 which is widened and, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, is substantially semicircular in cross section. From the knob c to the point e the arm is curved but slightly and lies in a substantially horizontal plane. From the point e to the point 0 it is curved outwardly and downwardly and from the pointc to the point c it its curved rearwardly. From the point 0 it is carried to the knob c with a gradual enlargement, a sharp shoulder 0 being formed atthe point of union with the knob.
Each of the frontlegs E, E, is formed as an extension downward of the corner of the seat frame, being, on the line y-y, substantially square in cross section with the outer corner leg is connected with the front and sides of the seat frame by graceful curves (Z, d, and is inclined downwardly somewhat. It terminates in a ledge or shoulder e and has the general appearance of a conventionalcurtain or rolled frame beneath which the leg proper extends to its foot. This lower portion 6' of the leg is substantially circular in cross section with a sharp inner edge e It is curved inwardly from the point e to about the point e where it is relieved by a rounded ledge or shoulder. From the point e to its extremity it is curved downwardly and is carved into the semblance of a clawed foot.
I claim as my invention:
The design for a chair, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AUGUSTUS CASIRAGHI. Witnesses:
A. N. J ESBERA, A. WIDDER.
