Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUST CARLEWITZ, OF NElVARK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A CORNICE.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUST CARLE\VITZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and 5 State of New Jersey, have invented and pro duced a new and original Design for a Cornice to be used in the angle formed by the wall and ceiling of a room, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to tothe accompanying drawings, showingapart thereof.
Figure 1 is a. front elevation of the cornice, showing my design. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the line a a of the same. These 15 views are deemed necessary to fully illustrate my design.
The prominent feature of my design consists in a raised figured surface, the outlines of which when viewed in clevation,as in Fig. :0 1, will lie principally within the cove of the cornice, but also at one point extending over the upper and lower moldings thereof.
A is the cove of the cornice, which is concave in form, and B C are respectively the 2 5 upper and lower beads or moldings.
The central feature of the design consists of the stem or vine V, extending along the cove and across the same from top tobottom. Branching from the stem V are the largeconventional leaves D D, which lie within the 0 limits of the cove. There is also a branch F, which leaves the main stem and terminates in a flower on the lower molding. The branch E does not extend outside the limits of the cove. On the upper molding is a seed-pod 35 G at the end of tendril connected with the main stem.
What I claim as new is- The design for a cornice herein shown and described, thesame comprising the upperand 40 lower plain moldings B and C and 'the intervening cove A, with raised stem and leaves, substantially as shown and described.
