UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN G. LYON, OF PIITSBRG, PENNSYLVAIIIA.
D'Esle N FOR cLAsswARE.
vSPIEIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,411, dated December 16, 1890.
Application filed September 30, 1890. Serial No. 366,689. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN G. LYON, a resident of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Original Design for Glassware; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which# l Figure l is a side view of a jug illustrating my design. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line 3 3, Fig. l.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in each.
The leading feature of my design consists in a body for jugs, bottles, inkstands, or like articles of glassware bulbous in shape and having a series Of deep vertical V-shaped grooves extending into the same.
The body a of the jug or other article is bulbous or ball-like in shape, and formed around the same are a series of deep vertical V-shaped grooves l), the sides c of said grooves being substantially {iatand meeting in a slightly-curved base-line d, the curve of the base-line being much iiatter, however, than the curve of the outer lines e of the grooves b. As so formed the faces of the bulbous body between the grooves are therefore formed on a curve corresponding to the bulbous body substantially vertical Walls havin g a series of dat vertical faces 7o around the same, which meet to form the angles m, and the outer Wall of the neck portion is therefore made up of a series Of angles m and iiat faces k. In jugs and some class of bottles I provide the article with a handle, as at In.
What I claim as my design, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for glassware herein shown and described, consisting in a bulbous body having a series of deep vertical V-shaped grooves extending into the same, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I, the said JOHN G. LYON, have hereunto set my hand.
