IVILLIAM ANDERSON, OF HUI/FON, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A MANTEL.
SPECIFICATIQN forming part of Design No. 19,873, dated J une 3, l 890.
Application filed February 20, 1890. Serial No. 341,27 Term of patent Yyears.
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NVILLIAM ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hulton, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Design for Mantels B B; and I do hereby declare the fellowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
In the aecompanyingdrawings, Figure i is a front elevation of a mantel showing my design. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same, these two views being deemed necessary to illustrate my design.
In the drawings, a represents the piiasters, which extend from the hearth to the mantelboard fm, and are provided at the top with cap-pieces b, each of which has formed on its front face rosett-es c and beveled lower edges d. These pilastersa are provided with a double series of reeds e extending in the direction of theirlength, and also with beveled outer edges of the Same length as the reeds e. A short distance below the lower extremities of the reeds e, and transversely across the pilasters a, is a deep V-shaped groove f. The frieze g of this mantel has a series of reeds h extending in the direction of its length and a beveled lower edge. Beneath the frieze g is a quarter-round molding and at the top of ille same is arranged a backing-strip k with a lower molded edge. This strip k and the caps l; are flush, which forms a ground for a suit-able molding l, arranged beneath the mantel-board fm.. The mantle-board m is molded about ite upper front edges. The
grounds n and fire-strips r have plain snrfaces.
Having thus described my design, I claim The design for a mantel, as herein described and shown.
