Be it known that we, WILLIAM B. STEARNS, of Melrose, and G. WILTON LEWIs, ot'Malden. both in the county of Middlesex and State of 5 Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Head-Stone or Foot-Stone, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing. is a. specification.
To This design relates to grave-stones for the gravesof deceased soldiers.
The drawing shows in front elevation at portion ofagrave-stone having our design thereon.
The design consists ofapairofcrossed laurel- :5 sprays inclosing space for any suitable inscription, the representation of an anchor, and an ornamental scroll shown composed of straight and curved lines and inclosing space for an inscription. Asshown, the crossed lau rel-sprays 20 and the anchor occupy the upper field of the design, while the scroll occupies the lower field.
