DESIGN FOR A CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,939, dated December 13, 1887.
Application filed October 2!, 1887. Serial No. 253,046. Term of patent years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RosWELL J. BUMP, of Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented and pro duced a new and original Design for a Chair, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photo graph, forming part thereof.
The photograph represents a view in perspective of a chair-frame embodying my new and original design.
The leading features of this design are the oppositely-curved front posts, the outward bowed arms, and ball ornaments at the meeting-points of said front posts and arms.
The front posts of the chair or chair-frame (marked b b in the accompanying photograph) are of bowed or curvilinear form, with their convex sides innermost or facing each other, said posts tapering upward and curving outward away from each other in an upward direction from the seat portion a of the chair to their junction with the arms d d, which are also of bowed or curvilinear form, with their convex sides outermost. Where these front posts, b b, and arms d d meet, there are ornaments 6 e, of a ball or spherical shape. The
postsffand top bow, g, of the chair are also ornamented where they meet with similar ball or spherical figures, e e, the whole chair or chairframe thus presenting balls at the upper corners of the back and balls at the front ends of the bowed arms and upper ends oft-he bowed front posts.
I claim 1. The design for a chair herein shown and described, the same consisting of the front posts, b b, of an outwardly-curving configuration above the seat of the chair, the arms d d, also of bowed or curvilinear form, with their convex sides outermost, the ball ornaments e e Where said front posts and arms meet, and the back posts, f f, and top how, 9, similarly ornamented by ball figures e e.
2. In a design for chairs, the oppositely curved or bowed front' posts extending above the seat portion, the outwardly bowed or curved arms, and the balls or spherical ornaments at the meeting-points of said front posts and arms, as shown and described.
ROSWELL J. BUMP.
