Description

DESIGN.
A. BECK.
SKIRT OR OTHER GARMENT.
No. 13,865. Patented Apr. 24, 1883.
. H .H HH
WITNESSES ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
AUGUST BECK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A SKIRT OR OTHER GARMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,865, dated April 24, 1883.
Application filed March 15, 1883. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUST BEoK, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Skirts, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved design for skirts and other garments, whereby a neater and more finished appearance is imparted to the same; and the invention consists of a design for a skirt or other garment, in which the main part or body of the skirt is provided with a series of longitudinal lines of stitches, and a border of zigzag, diamond, or wave lines of stitches, the border terminating again in a series of short straight lines of stitches.
The nature of my design is fully shown in the accompanying drawings, to which reference is made, and in which- Figure 1 represents a skirt with a border of zigzag lines of stitches, and Fig. 2 a skirt with a border of diamond-shaped lines of stitches.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a skirt or other garment, which is made of a number of sections, B, each of which is quilted in the main part or body thereof in straight longitudinal lines of stitches a, while the border portion is quilted in zigzag, diamond, wave, or other figured lines of stitches, which terminates again at the lower edge of the skirt in short straight lines of stitches (I.
By quilting the skirt in this manner a more finished appearance is imparted to the skirt or other garment as compared to garments in which one and the same pattern is quilted throughout the entire fabric, or only at the lower border portion of the same.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The design for a skirt or other garment, con sisting of a main part or body having straight longitudinal lines of stitches, a border portion having figured lines of stitches, and an edge portion having straight lines of stitches, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed it this 31st day of January, 1883.
AUGUST BECK.
