UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH RESHOWER AND AUGUST HECK, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESlGN FOR A PENCIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,814, dated March 27; 1883.
Application tiled December 1, i882. Term of patent T years.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, Jost-:rrr REsHowEn and AUGUST HECK, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Pencils, of which the following is a specification.
The design consists in a winding of thread upon the exteriorot' a. pencil and a tuft of thread fixed to the end, whereby the pencil is caused to resemble a tassel.
The design also consists in a pencil provided with a projecting or convex portion wound with thread.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side view of a pencil embodying our design. Fig. 2 is a Bide view of another pencil embodying our design, and Fig. 3 is a. side view of still another pencil embodying the design.
Similar letter of reference designate corrosponding parts in all the igures.
The pencil shown in Fig. 1 is ot cylindric form. -It is wound externally with silk thread a, which may be of any desirable color, or ofa number of' colors. It imparts tothe pencil a shiny and very rich appearance, as the pencil appears to be incased in silk. c is a tuftot silk, which causes the pencil to have the appearance of a tassel.
The-.pencil shown iu Fig.2 has a projecting or convex portion, b, near the inner end. This portion and the cyliudric portion are wound with silk. The projecting portion adds to the appearance ot' the pencil, as it relieves the same ot' the ordinary straight lines. A tuft of silk, c, is ailxed to the inner or upper end of the pencil, and imparts to the pencil the appearance of a tassel.
In the pencil shown in Fig.3 the projecting or convex portion b only is wound with silk. It has a tuft of silk` c.
Each of the pencils is shown as attached t0 a thread, d, by which it is suspended.
These pencils are especially designed for dance programme cards, and as they assimilate to the appearance ot' tassels they will he sut'- liciently ornamental without tassels.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure hy Letters Patent, is
1. The design consisting in a winding ot' thread upon the exterior of a pencil and a tuft ot' thread affixed to the end, substantially as specilied.
2. The design consisting in a pencilprovided with a projecting or convex portion wound with thread, substantially as specified.
