To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, JosErn B. SERGENT, ot' New Haven, in the county ot' New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for the Ornamentation of Butt-Hinges; and l do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with accompanying drawings and the letters of referenceniarkcd thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, 1n-

This invention relates to a design for the ornamentation of butt-hinges; and it consists in the ornamentation as shown in the accompanying illustration and hereinafterdescribed.

The face of the hinge shows a plain border around its margin. Transrersely across the face of the central portion ol this surlacc from the outside is a series of bars, a, leavingr a sunken space between the said bars. Between these bars and each end is asunken panel, into each of which a screw-hole cuts, and springing from that part of the screwhole in the panels is a series of radial points extending onto the surface. Above and helou the panels is a seriesof raised ornaments; hut these may be omitted, the essential feature of this part of the design being the Iransverse hars with the radial points around the screw-holes, as shown. While the ornamentation herein shown and described is intended to be used for the two sides ot' the hinge, the surface of either side magr be differently ornamented, the other side retaining the ornamentation herein described. I therefore do not wish to be understood aslimiting my invention to a design for the two faces combined; but

I claim- 1. The design for the ornamentation of the face of a butt-hinge, consisting of the margin around the edge ot' the part, transverse bars on the central portion extending from side to side, with the panel above and below,on which is a series of points springing from one side of the said panels onto the surface thereof, sulstanti-.illy as described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.

2. The design for the ornamentation ol butthinges, consisting of a sunken panel on the reverse surface, with radial points springing from one side onto the surface of thepanehas described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
