DESIGN FOR MOVABLE TYPE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,520, dated October 11, 1881.

Application filed August 24, 1881. Term of patent 7 years.

To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JAMES A. ST. JOHN, a subject ot' the Queen of Great Britain, residing in the city of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Movable Types, of which the followingr is a specication, reference heilig had to the accompanying impression, forming part thereof.

The presentinvention is an improvement in what is termed Old-Style Type.

The feature characterizing the present font is the lateral extension of the type-that is, the face of the type, in place of being lean or narrow in proportion toits height, as hitherto,

is broad in proportion to its height, as shown I5 in the accompanying fac-simile.

The other features of the type, such as the outline and shading, are similar to those of the ordinary oldestyle type, saving as modified by the extension feature in question.

I claim- The design for old-style movable type herein shown and described, the same consisting in the extended face.
