Description

07-505 7 Ex 09532 OR D DESIGN.
H. FRANZ. Ornamentation of Glassware.
ILL
HI1qEssEs. I F 1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY FRANZ, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO CAMPBELL, JONES 86 00., OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR ORNAMENTATION OF GLASSWARE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,887. dated October 29, 1875; application filed October 25, 1878. [Term of patent 31} years] To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY FRANZ, of Pittshnrg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Penn sylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Design for Glassware; and I do hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawin g, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 illustrates the design as applied to a covered article. such as a butter-dish. Fig. 2 illustrates the design as applied to an open bowl, such as a spoon-holder or like article.
My invention relates toa design for the ornamentation ot' glassware, and is intended to be applied to a full line of goods, such as bowls, covered howls, nappies, creams, sugars, pitchers, &c.
It consists in forming the article with flutes, which are extended in such wise as to form scalloped or beaded edges, and also in giving a reverse curve or general flattened ogee shape to the foot of the article in all such cases as a base or footis required.
In the drawing, A indicates a spoonholder, and B a covered bowl or dish, both of which have fluted surfaces a, terminating in a sealloped or beaded edge, b-iu one instance, B,
confined to the footed portion of the article 0, and in the other, A, where no cover is requircd, extended to both edges.
In many articles a foot, 0, will not be required, and in such cases the general design may be somewhat modified, the characteristic flutes terminating in scallops being retained; but where a foot is desired or required, I form it in reverse curve or general ogee form, as indicated atc 1?, extending the flutes a thereon, and terminating the flutes in scallops, as before specified.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a design for glassware, the form or configuration produced by an extended fluted surface terminating in a scalloped or beaded edge, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a design for glassware, the form or configuration produced by a series of flutes formed on a substantiallyogee surface, Whether said flutes do or do not terminate in a scalloped or beaded edge, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I, the said HENRY FRANZ, have hereunto set my hand.
Vitnesses: HENRY FRANZ.
