Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom "it array concern:
lie it known that I, FRANK ANTON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Bender, in the Province of Saskatchewan, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seed-Grain Steepers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
T he invention to be hereinafter described relates to steepin machines, and more particularly to machines for steeping or treat ing seed grain and the like.
Broadly speaking, it comprises standards, a liquid-proof receptacle mounted on said standards, mixing device mounted within iid receptacle, means for revolving said re ceptacle, and means for locking said receptacle in an upright position, all as described and claimed.
In order to more clearly disclose the con sti'uction, use and operation of the inven tion, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of the present application.
Throughout the several figures of the drawings, like reference characters desig nate the same parts.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective of the invention, showing both the inside and outside of the receptacle and a perspective of the mixing device; Fig. 2 is a perspective of a modified form of mixing device; and, Fig. 3 is a perspective of a removable pulley adapted for operating the device by power.
The main objects of the invention are to provide a simple and economical machine of the character described, which may be readily operated either by hand or by machine power, one which may be held in position for loading, and one in which only a single liquid-proof receptacle is required.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 indicates struts or standards,inthe upper ends of which is mounted a power shaft 9 On the power shaft 2 is fixed a liquid-proof receptacle 3, in which is secured a rod t extending longitudinally of the same and provided with a plurality of mixing blades or paddles 5. If desired, the rod 4 and shaft 2 may be integral, or the shaft 2 may be extended through the receptacle to take the place of the rod 4, and the blades or paddles 5 may be secured directly to the shaft )nc side of the receptacle 3 is hinged to the body of the receptacle to, form a door 6, and is provided with hasps 7 adapted to fit over staples 8 carried by the adjacent side of the receptacle, in order to fasten the cover 6 tightly upon the edges of the receptacle. If desired, a liquid-proof packing may be in terposed between the cover and the edges upon which the cover is seated. lVhile loading, the receptacle of course should be in upright position. To this end, a hook and eye, 9 and 10, respectively, have been provided, the hook being mounted on the standard l and the eye being secured to the end of the receptacle 3 slightly above the bottom thereof.
For operating the machine by hand, a hand crank 11 has been provided, and is adapted to be fitted upon the squared end of the shaft 2. Should it be desired to operate the machine by power, the friction pulley 12 may be substituted for the hand crank 11.
Various forms of mixing devices comprising rods and paddle blades or similar constructions may be used. One preferred form has been shown in Figl, and a second, somewhat similar form, is shown in Fig. 2.
It is thoughtthat the operation and use of the invention will be clear from the preceding detailed description.
Changes may be made in the construction, arrangement and disposition of the several parts of the invention, without in any way departing from the field and scope of the same, and it is meant to include all such within this application, wherein-only preferred forms have been disclosed.
