Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES C. KRoUsn, citizen of the United States, residing at Williamsport, Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridle- Blinkers, of which the following is a specification.

The invention hereinafter described is an improved bridle blinker or blinder constructed of small pieces of leather or scraps left in the cutting out of other articles, and substantially waste material.

The special object of the invention is to form the sections of such shape and dimensions that small pieces may be used, and yet these may be made into a blinker of symmetrical shape and ornamental design.

Tn the construction shown herein, I have used as a basis the ordinary shape of blinker, not changed in outline, but with the sections of such shape that they may be cut economically out of ordinary scraps of leather.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a front elevation of the blinker; Fig; 2 a section on line 11; Fig. 3 a section on line H; Fig. 4 an inside elevation; Fig. 5 a front View of a modified form of the sections or pieces; Fig. 6 a sectional View on line 83; Fig. 7 a sectional view on line 5-5.

In these drawings (Figs. 1 and 2), the center piece is indicated by A, and is intended to be substantially heart-shaped, so that the side pieces B, B, are of the same shape and size, and may be struck by the same die. The single piece C completes the inclosure of the center piece, and joins the inner ends of the side pieces on the lines a?;. The two side pieces unite on the line cd. These lines are so short that they are not noticeable. The center piece A may be of diiferent color, and may extend to the outer edges of the blinker, showing, of course, only at the central opening. The base piece C forms also the edge 00 for attachment to the side strap of the bridle. It may also be divided into two symmetrical and similar parts on the line cf, and these two parts are duplicates capable of formation by the same die, and when the edge as is inserted in the strap and thereby partly covered, the

exposed part of the line e-f is short and not noticeable. These parts, constituting the face of the blinker, are stitched to an interior form 9 of leather or fabric, which may be of inferior material, by appropriate lines of stitching shown in Fig. l. The rearor inside face of the blinker may, manifestly, be made of one piece, but for sake of economy I may subdivide them on lines y3 and zz, crossing each other at right angles, and thus make the inside of four scrap pieces meeting on said lines; and as these cannot be directly stitched through to the front, I unite them by splicing strips 72 and Z of leather or fabric, and stitched to the four pieces. This inside part is stitched to the front around the edges, and incloses the ordinary stiffening form or plate, at.

Tn the modified form shown in Fig. 5 and following, the central ornamental figured piece A is made with sides of straight, instead of rounded, shape, as in Fig. 1, and has a projection it instead of a rentrant point. The side and bottom pieces are also slightly changed in form, B, B being bounded on their inner edges by lines 0, 0, p, and line 39, 9, while the base piece (J conforms to the changed shape of the edge of the central pieces with its projection above described. This base piece also may be formed of two scrap pieces, the line of division being the line 0 7, only a short part of which will be exposed as in the primary form. These two parts are marked C. The stitching is as shown in Fig. 5, and the other parts may be as described in connection with the primary form. I do not limit myself to the particular form indicated nor to the pieces of symmetrical shape.

I claim:

1. A. blinker, the front of which is formed of a center piece, duplicate side pieces, and a base piece, substantially as described.

2. A blinker, the front of which is formed of a center piece, duplicate side pieces, and a base piece composed of duplicate parts, substantially as described.
