Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 10, 1911.
Patented May 30, 1911.
Serial No. 601,930.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH N. HARRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dolph, in the county of Missaukee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Envelops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in safety envelops, and has for its object the provision of a device of this character which may be either sealed by moistening the same, or not, as desired.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a safety envelop provided with novel means for reinforcing the sealing flap thereof, and also with asuitable catch whereby the said envelop may be securely sealed against opening.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved envelop with parts removed; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view therethrough, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved safety envelop, comprising the usual body portion 2, upon the sides and one end of which are formed the customaryside flaps 3 and bottom flap 4. The edges of the top or closing flap 5 are folded over against the flap, as clearly illustrated in the drawings, for the purpose of reinforcing the same and preventing the edges from tearing. A further reinforcing member is secured to the lower extremity of the closing flap 5, as clearly illustrated by the numeral 6, and has secured to the underside thereof a depending extension 7, which isconsiderably ,thicker than the thickness of the envelop, the said extension having secured to its lower terminal aspring wire 8, which is bent-outwardly, as indicated by the numeral 9, and offset at its opposite ends for engagement with apertures 10, located in the opposite sides of the said extension 7, whereby the said member when inserted through the eyelet 11 located side flaps respectively, will serve to normally sealthe contents within the envelop.
From the foregoing disclosure it will be manifest that an envelop is provided for which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.
Having thus fully described this inven tion, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A safety envelop comprising a body portion, a bottom and side flaps each having a slit therein, a sealing flap, a tab carried by the sealing flap, and a spring wire mounted in a pair of spaced parallel apertures formed in the tab, the intermediate portion of the said wire loosely located Within one of said apertures, the opposite ofiset ends thereof being inserted in the other aperture in the tab to hold the said spring in relative position with the tab, as and for the purposes hereinbefore described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
