The inventlon relates to improvements in display racks.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of display racks, and to provide a simple, inexpensive and eflicient rack of light, strong and durable construction, designed principally for the display of harness, and adapted for use in store windows and also upon the floors of a store, or other place, and capable of affording a rigid support and also of being readily swung back out of the way when desired.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawing :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a harness display rack, constructed in accordance with this invention, the detachable leg being removed to permit the supportingframe to swing upon the pivot of the stand. Fig. 2 is a side elevation partly in section, the detachable leg being connected with the front end of the supporting frame to form a rigid display rack.

In the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, 1 designates a supporting frame, mounted at one end upon a fixed stand 2, and supported at the other end by a detachable leg 3, adapted to be disconnected from the frame to permit the latter to swing on the stand and capable also of rigidly holding the frame to form a stationary display rack. The stand 2 comprises in its construction a central vertical leg or support 4, inclined side legs 5, and an intermediate inclined leg 6. The legs 5 and 6 are preferably curved, as shown, to present an ornamental appearance, and they are rigidly connected at their upper or inner ends to the upper end of the central leg or support 4, which is equipped at its lower end with a floor plate 7. The outer ends of the side and intermediate legs 5 and 6 are perforated for the reception of screws 8 and 9 for securing those legs to the floor or other supporting surface, and the floor plate 7, which is provided with a socket 10 to receive the leg or support 4, is pierced by screws 11 for securing the central leg or support 4 to the floor or other supporting surface. The lower end of the central leg 4 is suitably secured within the socket 10 and its upper end is preferably formed integral with or rigidly secured to the upper ends of the side legs, while the upper end of the intermediate leg 6 is preferably provided with a stud or projection 12, which is secured in a perforation at the upper adjacent ends of the side legs.

The supporting frame 1 tapers forwardly from its inner or rear end, and it is composed of a horizontal top bar 13, an inner vertical bar 14, and an inclined brace 15, extending from the lower end of the inner vertical bar to a front depending arm or portion 16 of the top horizontal bar 13. The top horizontal bar and the inner vertical bar are preferably constructed of a single piece of tubular metal, which is also extended to form the front depending arm or portion 16. The lower end 17 of the vertical bar 14 is threaded to receive an interiorly threaded sleeve or coupling 18, which is also arranged upon an upper threaded portion 19 of a pivot. The said pivot extends vertically from the central portion of the stand 2 and is rigid with the same, and is provided with a lower smooth portion 20, which receives an eye 21 of the lower rear end of the brace 15. The upper front end of the brace 15 is provided with a stud or projection 22, which is secured in a perforation of the depending arm or portion 16 of the horizontal top bar of the frame. The lower end of the sleeve 18 is spaced from the eye, and the threads of the pivot extend below the lower end of the sleeve sufficiently to permit the frame to swing on the pivot from one side to the other without jamming the parts or stripping the threads. The entire pivot may be made smooth if desired, but the threaded construction is preferable as it not only pivots the frame, but it secures the same to the stand.

The arm or portion 16 depends below the front end of the brace 15 and is provided with a stud 23, which is detachably connected with the leg 3 by a coupling sleeve 24:, engaging the upper threaded end 25 of the leg 3 and adapted to connect and disconnect the frame with the said leg 3. When the frame is disconnected from the leg 3, it is adapted to be swung in either direction. The leg 3 is equipped at its lower end with a floor plate 26, constructed similar to that heretofore described and secured to the floor by screws 27, or other suitable fastening devices. The supporting frame is provided at the top with laterally projecting supporting hooks 28, 29 and 30, but the number of hooks may be varied, and the display rack may be employed for displaying other articles than harness. The hooks 28, which are located at the front end of the frame, are adapted to receive and support the bridles; the inter mediate hooks 29, which are located at the rear portion of the frame, are designed for supporting the backhand and the lines, while the rear hooks 30 are arranged to receive and support the collars. The stand may be arranged either in a Window, or upon the floor adjacent to the wall, so as to extend outward from the same. The leg 3 will enable the display rack to be rigidly supported in an extended position, and its sleeve 23 will also permit the frame to be disconnected from the leg so as to be swung back against the wall where it will be out of the way.

Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A display rack comprising a stand having a vertical pivot and provided with means for enabling it to be secured in a fixed position, a frame mounted at one end on the pivot of the stand and provided with 4 means for supporting the article or articles to be displayed, a stationary leg provided at its lower end with means for securing it in a fixed position, and means for detachably securing'the upper end of the leg to the free end of the frame to form a rigid display rack, said means permitting the free end of the frame to be disconnected from the leg to enable the frame to swing horizontally on the pivot of the stand.

2. A display rack comprising a stand having a plurality of legs and provided at the top with a vertical pivot having a smooth lower portion and a threaded upper portion, a supporting frame including a top bar, an inner vertical bar connected at its upper end with the top bar and provided at its lower end with an interiorly threaded sleeve engaging the threads of the upper portion of the said pivot, and an inclined I brace connected at its front end with the top bar and having an eye at its rear end arranged on the smooth portion of the said pivot, and a supporting leg detachably connected with the frame at the front end thereof.

3. A display rack comprising a stand having supporting legs and provided at the top with a vertical pivot, the latter having a smooth lower portion and a threaded upper portion, a supporting frame including a top bar provided at its front with a depending arm having a threaded terminal, an inner vertical bar connected at its upper end with a top bar and having an interiorly threaded opening at its lower end receiving the threaded portion of the pivot, and an inclined brace provided at its lower end with an eye and arranged on the smooth portion of the pivot and located between the legs and the said inner vertical bar, the upper end of the brace being provided with a stud piercing the depending arm of the top bar at an intermediate point, and a removable leg having a threaded sleeve detachably engaging the threaded terminal of the said arm and adapted to be disconnected from the arm to permit the frame to swing on the pivot of the stand.
