Letters Patent No. 99,305, dated February 1, 1870.
IMPROVED 1T DIST-PROTECTOR.
The Schedule referredl to in these Letters Patent and making part of thesame.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, H. GALMANN and CHARLES Roms, of Buchanan, in the county of Allegheny, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved J eist-Protector;l and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying-drawing, forming part ot' this specilication. A.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a device for supporting and protecting joists in buildings, and consists in a cast-iron box-support,
placed in the wall which the end of the juist enters, and by which it is protected, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
From the lower end of the box, flanges B B extend so as to give it a good base to sta-nd upon.
O C are horizontal partitions' in thebox, of which there may be more or less, and
D D represent slots made in the end of the joist, to correspond with the partition, so that when the end lof the joist is inserted, it shall have more than one bearing to rest upon.
In many situations where joists are placed in walls, especially for lower oors, the .wood is exposed to much dampnes's, andy early decay consequent-ly ensues.' By the use of our box-protector, this diliculty is not experienced. rlhe ends of the joists areprotected from the effects of moisture, and maintained in -a proper position in the'wall.
