The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pan of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK Dorm, of Newark, i Ess county, New Jersey, have invented a new and improved Mould for Making Combined Iron and Steel Ingots; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact' description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in moulds for making ingots of iron and steel, in a manner to dispose the one metal on one or more sides of the other, and secure a perfect union of the two; and
.l t consists in a vertical mould, of four or other mimhers of plain sides, one or more of which may be detachable, and clamped to the others by strong bands, in which a strong, thick plate of metal is arranged to fit near one side, from top to bottom, snugly, to occupy a part of the space, when the metal, of which the greater partof the ingot is io be composed, is poured in, and to remain until the same has solidified suiliciently to retain its position, when it is withdrawn, leaving a space for the other metal, which, being poured in, unites perfectly with the first, and forms the required composition ingot.

In this way, I am enabled to make ingots, composed of steel on one side of iron, for working down to any special shapes, for articles such as skate and sleighrunners, cutlery, 850., requiring to be of steel in one part, and iron in another.
