Description
- liln'trd what strut ililm j Letters Patent No. 99,2139, dated January 25, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN COTTON-BALB TIES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the seme.
To all whom. 'it 'may concern:
Be itknown that I, J AMES WOODS Roses, of Mem.
phis, in the county of Shelby, and State of Tennessee,
have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bale- Tie; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', lwhich will enable others skilled in the art to lnztke and use the sume, reference being hud to the accompanying drawing, forming part of 'this specification.
This invention Arelates to a new and useful improvement in ties for baling cotton, and to be used for all Y heling-purposes for which they are adapted, and it has special reference to the menus of passing one end of the bund or hoop into the-buekle, and the construc- -tiou of the tongue of the latter, hereinafter described.
In theaecompunying drawing- Figure 1 represents a. top or plan view.
Figure 2 is an edge view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. Y
A. is a buckle, having a slot, B, et one end, to which one'end, C, of the band, is attached, by hooking it over thebnr D, of the buckle, as seen in fig. 2.
Eis the tongue of the buckle, having a, neck, F, and two square shoulders, g g.
The other end ofthe bend, C', is provided with orices- H H, of key-hole form, through which the tongue is made to pass, as seen in the drawing. l
The end O of the band or hoop being attached to the bar D, as seen in iig. 1, the other end, C', is brought around the bale, and passed under Ythe bar I, of the,
buckle. The end of the tongue E is passed through the broad portion of the oriceH. A
The expansion of the bale draws the narrow end of the orifice H in contact with the shoulders g g, of the tonjgue, and the fastening is complete.
represents a breekin the side of the buckle, through which the band or hoop may be passed into the buckle, when it is found more convenient to rua-ke the connection in that manner. It will be seen that the strnin is on the other portion of the buckle. The form of the tie is so plainly shown in the drawing, that further description is deemed unnecessary.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The buckle A, provided with the breek J, and with the ton gue E, having shoulders g, in combination with the hoops C und O', the letter having a T- shaped slot or aperture,'all arranged as set forthend shown.
JAMES WOODS ROGAN.
