My invention relates to detector bars for use on railways and the objects of my invention are to construct a detector which is easily operated, simple in construction and eflicient in use. I obtain these objects by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure l is side elevation of my detector in position on. a railway rail. Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same at X K Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings A represents a. railway rail.
B is the detector bar which is w e-shaped in cross-section. The detector her is supported along side the rail by a supportor clip, here shown as comprising a gul 2.9- piste C and a block G.
D is a slot in the guide plate C and may be substantially in the form of a circle or may he mode with one upw rd projecting arm and one horizontal and one downward arm as shown in Fig. l.

The combination with a railroad rail, a detector bar provided with an arc-shaped surface transversely of the detector bar, a support for said bar having an arc-shaped surface which co-acts with the arc-shaped surface on the detector bar connections between said detector bar and said support adapted to move the detector bar over the rail concentrically to the arc-shaped support when the detector bar is moved l0ngitudinally, and means for moving the bar longitudinally.
