To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, I-IonA'rio G. KnLsEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-

My invention relates to an improvement in that class of buckles for personal wear designed with part-icular reference to use on overalls, the object being to produce a convenient two-button buckle constructed with particular reference to flexibility and security.

With these ends in view my invention con sists ina buckle having certain details of construction and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.

In carrying out my invention I employ a centrally arranged frame made of a single piece of wire bent to form a horizontal upper bar 2, a horizontal lower bar 3, and vertical ends 4, 4, the upper and lower bars 2 and 3 each consisting in effect of two alining members. The upper bar is interrupted, as it were, by two buckle-tongues 5 which extend at a right angle to it and which coact with the flattened central portion 6 of a bail or bow 7 the ends of which are bent to form eyes 8 to embrace the two portions 2 of the Specification of Letters Patent.

over the horizontal bar 12 which reaches between the two button loops 13 of the button loop frame which also comprises suspension arms l-ct bent at their upper end to form eyes 15 embracing the ends of the two portions 3 of the lower bar of the central frame. Under this construction of parts the two button-loops 13 are respectively located on opposite sides of, and out of line with, the clearance arch 9 and the horns 10.

By being made as described, in three pieces, my improved buckle, though relatively large, is made so flexible as not to be clumsy. The space 11 formed for permitting the introduction of the buttons into, and their removal from the loops 13 is ample for that purpose, and does not increase the total length of the buckle-structure because the clearance arch 9 is bowed inward toward the tongues 5, and yet not enough to interfere with the free passage of the overall strap through the central buckle-frame, as shown in Fig. 1.

To insert the buttons into the loops 13, the buttons are passed through the clearance space 11 and then carried in one direction or the other over the reach 12 so as to permit them to move down into the loops 13. Similarly the buttons are disengaged from the buckle by lifting them out of the loops 13 and then carrying them inward into the clearance space 11 from which they can be disengaged from the buckle without swinging the button-loop frame forward. The guards 1O prevent the buttons from working into the space 11 when the strain upon the overall straps or flaps is removed.
