In my saidV patented improvements the inner lend .portion of lthe temple-'holders-or d vbent 'wire connections are adapted to "be sep cured or attached tonosespieoes specially devised to -receive'therrn.` As thus constructed, 'the cost of production is materially increased; or, in other words, the temple-holders lwere not adapted to Abe rigidly secured '30 -or'even removably secured to ordinary 'noseber 'of -the pieces, such as are usually carried in stock by Opticians yand dealers in optical goods.

The inner end of thelatter is also engaged by the oppositely disposed curved vertical mem-` bers (Z integral with the nose-piece. The lens is adapted `to fill the space between the ears and to be detachably securedpto them by'a screw s, all as usually constructed. vThe said ear members are usually made plano-con- 15. vex cross-sectionally, the outer face or surface being more or less curved or convex.

In producing my improved connection or one-piece temple-bow holder A, a short bar of" gold or other suitable stock 1s rst subjected, say to the action of a combination die, which reduces the stock to the elongated body or shank part a and the enlargedhead portion al. This latter constitutes the inner end part of the holder member and 1s preferably shaped so as to conform to the said convex or outer face of the ear of the nose-piece. The head part is made quite thin and, when in use, practically envelops or covers the corresponding portion of the ear, a hole s1 registering with holes 'formed in the ears, is

pierced through the stock and adapted to receive the usual retaining screw s; the latter serving both to secure the lens to the ears of the nose-piece and for detachably securing the templebow holder itself to it. may be further added that usually the inner faces of the elongated laterally separated straps or ears b2 of a nose-piece are flat and adapted to bear directly against the respective faces of the lens, the outer faces -of the ears having a somewhat convex form crossv sectionally, a single central screw s passing through the ears and lens serving `to clamp all together. By shaping the rear face of the head part a1 of the holder so as to practically fit` the said convexity of the ear, the

The latter, it may he observed, is or may be made as usually employed in spectacles, except that its joint end o]L is enlarged and tapped,

as just stated, to receive the said screwthreaded end a2 ofthe member A. I prefer to make the body part a of the `temple-holder concentric or parallel with the semi-circumference of the outer edge of the lens Z and disposed 'at the back of and contiguousto it. The outer end ortion of the holder is bent or offset at a3 (Psee Fig. 7) to permit the enlarged, ball-shaped end o1 of the tapped temple-bow to swing freely thereon, as in opening and closing them.

It is obvious that, if desired, the members A may be readily disposed' or positioned `at the upper edge of the lenses without any change whatever in their construction. In such case, the relation of the holders to each other and to the lenses would be reversed; that is, the lower left holder, shown in Fig. l, would then become an upper right one, and the lower right holder an upper'left one.

What I claim as my present invention and desire to secure by United States Patent 1s:-

l. The -improved one-piece temple-bow holder member herein described, comprising a curved shank or body part having one end constructed for coperative engagement with a temple-bow, and havingthe other or head end portion of the member elongated and extending inward toward the other end of the holder, its wall being quite thin and resilient and concavo-convexy in form crosssectionally and adapted .when in use to bear against and cover the outer or convex face of an elongated apertured ear or strap of a nose-piece, the said head part having a hole therethrough registering with that of the ear for receiving the usual holding screw.

2. In frameless spectacles, the combination with a nose-piece provided .with a pair of laterally separated ears or straps adapted to receive a lens therebetween, of a bent connection member provided with an enlarged inner head portion having a degree of elasticity'and adapted to be superimposed upon the outer surface of one of said ears, means for detachably securing it to the latter, and a ltemple-bow screw-jointed tothe outer endof said connection.
