CIGAR AND CIGARETTE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2 a, 1911.
Application filed September 11, 1909. S eria1No. 517,196.
To all whom it may concern.
citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar and Cigarette Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates particularly to cigar and cigarette holders; and my primary object is to provide a device of this character equipped with an improved nicotin collector and impaling device, said impaling device being adapted to the purpose of preventing dislodgment of the cigar or cigarette from the holder.
The invention is illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a sectional. view of a cigar or cigarette holder constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, a view showing the mouth-piece and nicotin-collector carried thereby detached from the holder-tube, section; Fig. 3, a perspective view showing all three parts of the device detached from each other; and Fig. 4, a sectional view similar to Fig. 1 and showing a slight modification.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 3, inclusive, the device comprises a holder-tube A; a mouthpiece B; and a nicotin-collector C. The holder-tube A is provided with a straight, smooth bore 1 which terminates in a flaring opening 2 at one end and terminates at a threaded counter-bore 3 at the other end. The mouth-piece B has its base-end provided with an extension l of reduced diameter, said extension 4 being threaded both externally and internally. The mouth-piece has an enlarged chamber 5. The device 0 comprises a nicotin collector 6, an impalingdevice Z carried by one end thereof and a scraping-device 8 carried by the other end thereof. he nicotin-collector comprises a small rod which is extended and sharpened to form the impaling-device 7 and disks 9 mounted on said rod and suitably spaced, said disks being provided with small perforations adapted to permit passage of the equipped with a sleeve 10 which affords a shank for the device, said sleeve 10 being threaded and adapted to screw into the nipple 4 of the mouth-piece. The shank 10 carries the the holder-tube being shown in I I scraping-device 8, which erferably forms a Be it known that I, JOHN R. PERRY, a
cut-away extension of t The cut-away extension is to enter the tapering bore, or chamber, of the mouth-piece. The construction is such that when the device C is unscrewed from the mouth-piece, the device 8 will serve to scrape the interior wall of the mouth-piece by a rotary action. The impaling-device 7 extends into the tapered portion of the bore of the holder-tube A, extending a little less than flush with the end of the holder-tube. In operation, the cigar or cigarette is entered in the tapering portion of the bore of the tube A and impaled on the point 9. This serves effectually to prevent dislod ment of the cigar or cigarette from the ho der. In the smoking operation, the smoke is drawn through the minute perforations in the thin disks of the nicotin-collector, and the nicotin is deposited on the collector. When desired, the mouthiece .and nicotin-collector may be separate from the holder-tube, as shown in Fig. 2, thus enabling the nicotin-collector e tubular shank. tapered suitably to be wiped, while it is held through the medium of the mouth-piece. If desired, the nicotin-collector may be unscrewed from the mouth-piece, in which operation the device 8 serves to scrape the interior wall of the mouth-piece. In the operation of withdrawing the nicotin-collector from the holdertube A, the disks 9, which contact accurately with the wall of the bore, serve to scrape the said wall. If desired, a cigar may be inserted in the holder without clipping the end, the device 7 in such case serving as a puncturing device. In the case of a cigar which, after clip ing, does not have a good draft, the device will serve to improve the draft, inasmuch as it will loosen up the interior of the cigar.
In the modification shown in Fig. 4, A represents the holder-tube; B the mouthpiece; and C the nicotin collector. In this case the device 8 is dispensed with, the construction of the nicotin-collector, impaling device and shank for the nicotin-collector being the same as already described. This construction enables the mouth-piece to be shortened to such an extent that the bore of the mouth-piece may readily be cleansed without provision of special means for effeet-ing the cleansing.
The foregoing detailed description has been given for clearness of understanding only and no undue limitation should be understdod therefrom.
What I regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A device, of the character set forth, comprising a holder-tube having a straight bore with a taper at one end and a mouthpiece detachably connected with the other end of said holder-tube, and a nicotin-collector carried by said mouth-piece and detachable therewith, said nicotin-collector adapted to scrape the wall of the straight portion of the bore of said holder-tube.
2. A device of the character set forth, comprising a holder-tube provided with a straight bore havin a taper at one end, a mouth-piece detacha ly connected with said holder-tube, a nicotin-collector having a shank fitted in the base-end of said mouthiece with a smoke-passage therethrough, and with: a rod extending from said shank and equipped with perforate disks contacting with the walls 0 the straight portion of said bore.
3. A device of the character set forth, comprising a holder-tube having a straight, smooth bore with a taper at one end and a threaded counter-bore at the other end, a mouth-piece having a reduced base-portion externally threaded to enter said threaded counter-bore, and a nicotin-collector equipped with means adapted to scrape the walls of the straight portion of said bore and provided with a shank having screw-connection with the interior of the base-portion of thc mouth-piece. 1
4. A device of the character set forth, comprising a holder-tube provided ,with a bore having a taper at one end, a mouthpiece detachably connected with said holdertube, a nicotin-collector in the bore of said holder-tube and equipped with means for scraping the walls of said bore, said nicotincollector having a shank extending into the base-portion of said mouth-piece and equipped with a scraping-device adapted to scrape the interior of the wall of the mouthpiece when the nicotin-collector is rotated with relation to the mouth-piece. 4
5. In a device of the character set forth, the combination of a holder-tube provided with a straight bore having a taper at one end, a mouth-piece connected with the other end of said holder-tube, a nicotin-collector carried by said mouth-piece and withdraw- -able therewith, said nicotin-collector having disks adapted toscrape the walls of said straight bore, and an impaling-device carried ysaid nicotin-collector and extending into the taper-portion of said bore.
