PULL-CHAIN GUIDE FOR SOCKETS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OWEN E. Knxxnx, citizen of the United States, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new anduseful Pull-Chain Guide for Sockets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to electric lamp sockets of the pull-chain type, and has particular reference to the construction and manner of fastening of the chain guides thereto.
The object of my invention is to provide a chain guide of this character, which is capable of being easily and quickly attached radially to the socket-shell or at one side of a central line substantially tangential to the socket axis, is inexpensive of manu facture and application to a socket, and is simple, strong and durable in its construction.
The invention is fully described in the following specification, and two embodiments thereof illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figures 1 and 2 are plan and side views of a socket-shell embodying one form of the invention, with a portion of the latter in section. Figs. 3 and 4 are similar views, respectively of another form of the same, with a portion of the former in section, and Figs. 5 and 6 are sectional views of the two members of the guide comprising my invention.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the shell of an electric lamp socket, and B the pull-chain guide comprising my invention.
The guide B consists of the inner riveting or securing member a and the outer bellshaped member 6. The inner member a is of tubular form, or of a form corresponding in cross-sectional shape and size to that of the inner end portion of the member 6, to adapt it to telescope therein, after being projected outwardly through a corresponding opening a in a side of the shell A. The inner end of the member a is outwardly flanged as Specification of Letters Patent.

The member Z) is adapted to fit at its inner end over the projected end of the member a and to abut at such end against the outer marginal wall of the opening 0 in opposition to the abutment of the flange (Z of the inner member against the inner marginal wall thereof, as indicated in Fig. 2. lVhen the members a and Z) have been placed together in this manner, the outer end of the member a is expanded, as shown in Fig. 2, in any suitable manner, to snugly fit within the flaring or bell-shaped out-er member Z) to cooperate therewith to hold it firmly to the shell.
With this, construction of chain guide itis possible to attach it to a socket shell radially thereof as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or in a line which is tangential to a circle concentric with the axis of the shell, as indicated in Figs. 3 and t, as with the latter it is only necessary to inwardly depress the wall of the, opening 0 for such purpose as shown at c, Fig. 3.
It is apparent that my construction of guide provides an easy, simple and highly efiicient means of attaching a chain guide to a socket-shell, and in addition to this reinforces and strengthens such guide. This construction and manner of fastening the chain guide to the shell also enables the shell to be buffed before affixing the guide therer to as the attaching of the guide, is quickly done without any injury to the buffed surface.
I wish it understood that my invention is not limited to any specific construction or form of the parts except in so far as such limitations are specified in the claims.
Having thus described my invention,what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
1. The combination with a socket-shell having an opening in a side thereof, of a chain-guide in register with such opening with its inner end abutting against the outer marginal wall thereof, and an eyelet member projected through said opening and Within the chain-guide, with its inner end flanged to engage the inner marginal wall of the opening and its outer. end engaging the interior of the guide to hold it firmly to the shell.
