WILLIAM VERNON SMILEY, OF S'IAUNTON, VIRGINIA.
CIGAR-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 14, 1911.
Application filed June 15, 1910. Serial No. 567,004.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM V. SMILEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at fitaunton, in the county of Augusta and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cigar holding and cutting devices for slitting the tip of the cigar longitudinally and radially to make it convenient to draw smoke through the parts thus cut and avoiding the necessity of cutting off the tip of the cigar which is commonly the practice of smokers.
The invention comprises a simple device of this nature having various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure. 1 is a sectional View longitudin ally through the device, and Fig. 2 is a sectional View on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a cigar holder which may be of any suitable size or shape and of any material. One end of the holder has a recess B which is conicalshapcd and adapted to conform to the tip o t a cigar. Blades E are fastened to the inner surface of the holder and are radially disposed and project in the manner shown with their cutting edges at inclinations, adapted to out oppositely disposed slits in the tapering end of the cigar, thus forming convenient means by which the smoke may be drawn through the hole.
By the provision of a cigar slitting and holding device, it will be noted that it will not be necessary to cut the tip of the cigar in order to allow the smoke to be drawn therethrough.
What I claim to be new is A cigar holder having a tapering opening therethrough, the cutting blades fastened at the inner surface of the tapering wall of the holder and disposed radially, the edges of said blades being convexed.
In testimony whereof I hereunto allix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
\VTLLIAM VERNON SMILEY.
