Australia, have invented a new and useful Improvement inGolf-Sticks, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in the heads of golf sticks and has special reference to the weighting thereof.

The objects of my invention; are,'first, to provide a means whereby the Weight of the golf stick head may be arranged or altered to suit the requirements of the user; and,

second, to provide a .weight which is readily inserted in place but which will be tight when the head is ready for use. I attain these and other objects by the devices illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a bottom plan of the head of a golf stick; Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof through the weights; Fig. 3 is an elevation thereof; Figs. 4 and 5 are respectively side view and plan of one of the weight nuts.

Similar numerals ofv reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views. The present method of weighting golf sticks is to form a'horizontal cavity therein,

said cavity extending inward from the face of the stick, and then pouring molten lead thereinto. This method results, in many cases, in injuring the wood of the stick by the heat of the lead, and has the further disadvantage that the Weight thus applied is largely guessed at, and once it is applied it cannot readily be altered. -This necessitates a dealer insuch goods to-keepon hand a very large stock of similar heads differing only in'weight. Now, I have overcome these objections and have produced a device whereby a buyer can choose the form of the head he desires and state the weight needed and the head may then be brought to the desired weight in a very few minutes, and this too without injuring the wood thereof by 'hot metal.

When the disks 3 are-compressed 'by the plug 4, they flatten and spread and gripthe sides of the cavity and cannot ,move therein sired to alter the weight of one of my improved heads, then the plug 4 is removed by drills or other suitable tools and then weights -may be added to or taken from the cavity as desired. Then anew plug is driven in and gluedand is then cut and polished as above stated. 1 Having described my invention, what I claim is: a

In a golf stick, the combinationwith a head having a cavity formed in the lower side thereof and extending upward a part way therethrough; unit Weights within the cavity and occupying only a portion'thereof and aplug filling the remainder of the cavity and cemented therein and engaging the end of the weight to prevent the movement thereof within the cavity. v

2. In a golf stick, the combination with a head havin a cylindrical'cavity formed in its lower si eand extending upward a part way therethrough; dished metal disks therein, of smaller diameter than the cavity, and

each forming a unit weight; and a plug adapted to be driven into said cavity and to flatten said disks tdspread theminto contact with the cavity walls.
