COMB-CLEANER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Or ro C. Fnnonn, a citizen of the United States, residing in Paterson, Passaic county, New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improve ment in Comb-Cleaners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to devices for use in cleaning hair-combs and the like, and it has for its object to provide a device of this nature, simple and inexpensive in construction, whereby a comb may be cleaned with facility and thoroughness.

The invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein,

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the de vice, showing a comb in position to be cleaned thereby; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line m ru of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the device, certain parts thereof being broken away; Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view; and, Fig. 5 illustrates a detail.

In the drawing, a is a bow-shaped frame preferably formed of heavy wire and having a handle Z) produced by twisting a loop in one end portion of the wire. The parts a stand at right angles to the intermediate part a of the frame (Fig. 3), vhile the parts a stand each at an obtuse angle to the corresponding part a (Fig. 2).

c and cl designate two sheet metal plates which are carried by the parts a of the frame, each being secured thereto by a rivet c. The plate 0 has its inwardly projecting portion bent downwardly and back upon itself to form the fold c, and then downwardly and back upon itself again to form the fold c", the extremity 0' of the fold being deflected downwardly at an obtuse angle to form a cleaning edge. The plate (Z has its inwardly projecting portion bent downwardly and back upon itself to form the fold 03.

At the first bend f in the plate 0 and at the corresponding bend g in the plate (Z a slit h is formed, each slit being adapted to receive the parallel wires or the like 2', each' wire at one end being crinkled or crooked, as at ,4.

To hold the ends of the wires in the plates 0 and (Z strips 70 and Z are provided, the ends of the wires being bent around said strips (Fig. 3) and preferably engaging in notches 972- formed in the laterally outer edge of each strip. The strip 70 is received between the fold 0 and the body portion of the plate 0 and bears against the bend The strip Z occupies a similar position between the body portion of the plate (Z and the fold (Z thereof. As indicated in Figs. 2 and 4 the ends of the strip 70 may be rebent and inserted be tween the folds c and c. A flat brush a, comprising the bristles 0 and a metallic strip 79 bent upon itself to form a holder for the bristles (Fig. 5), is arranged to project from the plate (l over the wires, the holder lying between the body portion of the plate (1 and its fold cl while the bristles protrude through the slit h.

lVhen the strips 70 and Z and the brush have been assembled with the plates in the manner above described, the folds of the plates are flattened or compressed to secure said strips and the brush therein.

In using the device it is held in one hand and then the comb r is moved back and forth in such relation thereto that the wires 2' enter between the teeth of the comb. On each stroke, the loosening of the dandruff or the like adhering to the comb is facilitated by the crinkled or crooked portions 7' of the wire; also by the brush 0 and the edge 0, which latter is principally useful in removing any substance adhering to the faces of the comb.

By the described arrangement of the parts a and a with reference to the part a of the frame, the wires are elevated relatively to the part a so that the comb does not interfere with the latter.
