WIRE-CLAMP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID P. PAGE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire- Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in wire clamps, and its object is to provide a clamp adapted to secure a wire to a metallic post or other support of like character, and to provide the same with various new and useful features, hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective of a device embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a front elevation of a portion of the same; Fig. 3 an elevation of the same at right angles to Fig. 2; Fig. 4 an inverted plan view of the same; and, Fig. 5 an upright plan View of the same.
Like numbers refer to like parts in all of the figures.
1 represents two T-bars arranged with their head portions opposite each other and parallel, and also spaced apart a sufficient distance to receive therebetween the bolts 7. 2 represents wires attached to the said bars by means of my device, which consists essentially of a plate 8 having marginal extensions 4 at its sides and near the lower corners thereof turned toward the T-bars at right angles and recessed in the edge to engage the wire 2. The upper end of this clamp is also turned toward the said bars at right angles, as at 5, to engage and rest upon the edges of the head portions of the bars and form a support for the upper end of the plate 3. This portion 5 is also provided with a lug 6, which is adapted to enter between the bars 1, being of a width substantially the same as the diameter of the bolt 7, and thus prevents turning of the plate about the axis of the bolt. The square neck 8 of the bolt between the bars prevents the turning of the bolt upon its axis when the nut is tightened and a washer 9 between the bolt head and the bars affords a support for the bolt head and has its opposite sides bent inward to embrace the bars and prevent the same from spreading apart. The wires 2 are thus clamped between the extensions 4 extending at the opposite sides of the angle bars, and the edges of the head portions of the angle bars, and is thus bent out of alinement and securely held between the same. The extensions 4 are spaced apart from the head portions of the angle bars to prevent shearing off of the wires, and at the same time bend the wires sufficient to prevent them from slipping endwise. It will be noted that the clamp and washer hold the T-bars in close relation to the bolt and that the bars require no other connecting means; also that the device is vertically adjustable in the bars at pleasure.
What I claim is 1. A wire clamp, comprising two T bars having their head members arranged parallel and spaced apart, a plate having its side edges bent to embrace the edges of the said members, and spaced apart therefrom, said plate also having recesses in the side edges to receive a wire and one end bent to transversely engage the edges of the said members and support the plate substantially parallel with the T bars and a bolt extending between the T bars and through the plate, said plate and bolt being adjustable longi t-udinally of the bars.
2. A wire clamp, comprising T-bars having their head members spaced apart in parallel planes, a bolt extending between said bars, a plate through which the bolt extends, said plate having extensions at its respective sides at one end and turned toward the bars and recessed to engage a wire and also having one end turned toward the bars to rest against the same, and a lug on said end extending between the bars to prevent the plate from turning about the axis of the bolt.
