SHOE FOR WALKING ON WATER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUIoi Risso, electrician, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Genoa, Italy, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shoes for \Valking on \Vater, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved device for walking or traversing on the surface of water and has for its principal object the incorporation of means whereby movement of the device, or movement of the means directly, will serve to cause the device to advance.
The invention will be more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing and will be more particularly pointed out and ascertained in and by the appended claims.
In the drawing :Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of one of the hulls or shoes forming a part of my invention. Fig.
2 is a plan view of a complete device with one of the hulls or shoes shown in section and with a part of the propelling device shown in section. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of one of the hulls in a collapsed position. Fig. 4 is a transverse section on line 44 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view on line 5-5 of Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a plan view of a modified form of my invention.
Like characters ofreference designate similar parts throughout the different figures of the drawing.
The invention includes in its construction two shoes or hulls designated at 1, the construction of the hulls being similar, only one will be described in detail. As shown the hulls embrace or include a skeleton frame structure composed of rearwardly arranged parallel rods 41 and forwardly arranged centrally disposed rods 6, to which rods are secured a plurality of partitioned disks 7 At the ends of the rearmost rods 4 back disks 3 are secured, preferably rigidly, and to the forward end of the centrally disposed rods 6 a reduced disk 7 and further reduced member 5, is provided to obtain a tapering or pointed construction. The skeleton frame is inclosed with canvas or other suitable material 1 to form a floating structure and the intermediate disks 7 form partitioning diaphragms dividing the canvas inclosures into a plurality of separate chambers. Each hull is provided with an upwardly projecting Specification of Letters Patent.

tubular portion 2 to permit the rider or walker to insert his feet into the hulls and said portions 2 serve to embrace the leg of the walker or rider some distance above the foot. On the rods 4: a suitable stirrup or foot support 8 is provided, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and l. Rods or shafts 1O mounted in the bearings 11 and 12, project from said hulls into and form bearings for a blade propellin device. The rods 10 are in parallel relation with each other and out of alinement so that when movement is imparted to the hulls to rotate the propeller 9 the latter will be rotated about an axis arallel with and between said rods. By aiternately throwin the weight of the rider on one hull and re easing on the other it will be readily seen how rotative movement is imparted to the propeller 9.
In the form shown in Fig. 6 the hulls 1 are connected by a rod 20 near their rear portions, and are provided with bearings 16 in which a crank shaft 15 is mounted. The propellers 9 are mounted on the shaft 15 in alinement with each other and to the crank portion of said shaft 15 is connected a rod 17 provided with a handle 18. On the lower end of the rod 17 is a rudder or paddle 19. The operator by grasping the handle 18 can turn the propellers 9', upon rotation of the crank of the shaft 15, and by turning the handle 18, the paddle 19 may serve as a rudder to steer the device.
By removing the rods 4: and 6 the device may collapse as shown in Fig. 3 so that it may be carried or transported very conveniently without taking up much space.
I claim:
1. In a device for walking on water, the combination with two substantially closed hulls each comprising a skeleton frame composed of two rearwardly extending parallel rods, a centrally disposed rod arranged in parallel relation with said rearward rods and extending forwardly thereof, a back disk secured to the rear ends of said rearwardly disposed rods, a plurality of partitioned diaphragms disposed on said rods and spaced apart from each other, the foremost diaphragm being reduced in diameter with respect to the remaining diaphragms, a cone member disposed on the forward end of said central rod, and a water-proof covering inclosing said diaphragms and extending from said cone member to said back disk.
