Be it known that I, WALTER H. VVHI'i'i'iiiii,
' certain new and useful Improvements in Refrigerator-Liniugs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will of the figures.
Heretofore in the manufacture of refrigmetallic linings, these line-1 enable others skilled in the art to which' it up ertains to make and use the same.
y invention relates to improvements in refrigerator linings, and its ob ect is to provide an air tight lining that willv be practically germ proof, easily cleaned, non-cor- .rosive,'and that will fully protect the woodwork from any. moisture or vapors from the interior. of the refrigerator, and to rovide thesame with various newvand use ul'features hereinafter more fully described.
My improved lining consists essentially of. a sheet metal lining provided with round corners and formed up and welded integralbefore being inserted in the case and also provided with a coatin of suitable enamel .to protect the same, the ining of the various chambers which communicate through opencleaned. The sai ings in the partitions being connected by flanges formed integral with the lining, inse'rted in itheopenings, and connected by suitable coupling rings, together'with shelf supports comprising studs secured by suitable fastenings extending from the outer surface of thelinin'g through the same into the supports, whereby the linings are ren dered air tight, erm' proof, and easily (F fastenings also furnish means for spacing the lining apart from the woodwork, whereby an air space is left therebetweeii, and in various features of construction and arrangement, as will more fully appear by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Like numbers refer-to like parts if all era-tors havin ingsare usual y formed with sharp angles and of several sheets, alliseparately insertedand secured in contact with the walls and partitions of the case and having no adequate means for properly covering the opensents the outer case of a refrigerator having the usual partitions and shelving therein,
the form shown having a middle vertical partition 1*, and a horizontal partition 1" in one side forming the bottom of the ice chamher, all of the various chambers being provided with an inner lining 2 of sheet metal y suitably enameled to protect the same from corrosion, and each lining being made up integral before insertion, the vertical walls being continuous and provided with rounded corners or angles 2 to facilitate-the cleaning of the same, and the top and bot tom plates welded to the vertical walls. These preferred rings are formed ofhalf round bar and the ends joined by means of circular heads 13 on one end, fittedwithin corresponding openings on the other end, whereby the ends are interlocked. To prevent water flowing into the opening 5, the lining of the bottom of the ice box instead of being flanged downward, is flanged upward whereby a dam is formed around the opening 5, as at 6, and the modified coupling ring 8 formed of sheetmetal is inserted in the opening and extendsdownward within the flanges with its upper edge turned outward and' downward over the flange .6, whereby a smooth and rounded u per'edge is formed around said opening. t will he noted that all of these parts are substantially air tight and the wood-work efiectually covered thereby.
To avoid any leakageof air through the linings, and to furnish a smooth and easily cleaned support for the shelyes, I provide su ports preferably in the form of cylin drical bodies having rounded inner ends as at 10. These supports are mounted with their outer ends against the lining and preferably provided with a washer, being held in place by a screw-11 extending through the lining from the outer side, whereby a smooth close fitting support is formed for the shelf, and the screw head (preferably of round head) projecting from the surfaceof the lining, spaces the same" apart fromthe partitions or wood-work of the case'and thus,
provides a thin air space therehetween, aids in excluding the heat from the interior of the refrigerator, and also more fully prevents the wood from becom ng decayed by moisture or contact with the metal;
By the construction shown, a series of chambers may be connected by an air tight lining, if preferred to extend or enlarge a refrigerator.
The described construction of sheet metal lining by welding in the top and bottom and forming integral flanges, not :herem claimed, but is reserved for a separate application in conformity .with requirement of division;
