IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES FOR, CLOTHING.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent nd making part of the Sme- `'lo all 'whom it may concern.- f

Be it known that I, EARLE A. SMITH, of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in

Figure 3, a transverse section of' the buckle, and in Figure 4, a top view of the buckle complete.

'Ihis invention relates to an improvement in buckles for wearing-apparel; and consists in the formation of the frame, loop, and means of connection for the tongue from a single piece of metal, and the tongues of a second piece.

To enable others skilled inthe art to fullynnderstand my invention, I will proceed to describe the same, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

Upon each of the ends D, I leave portions, E, of

the same meta-1 as a means of securing the tongne,'as hereafter shown; also the bar F extending; from end" to end forward of the bar B, all as seen -in iig. 1.

Then, from .another piece of metal, I form a bar, Gr, with tongues H H, more or less in number, preferring to make this of sheet-metal, the two ends f of the bar G being bent or worked into the form, as seen in tig. 3, to forni a suitable hinge.

The parts E of the frame are struck below the frame, as seen in fig. 3, and the tongue laid` beneath them, and the parts E bent around the ends f of the tonguebar, so as to form theshinge, as seen in figs. 3 andA, and the buckle is complete.V i

It will be observed lthat by this construction is formed the bar B for the means of attachment, and the tuck-loopis formed by the interposition ofthe bar F between the bar B and the tongue-bal; G
