application inea neuen ia, .una :aerial no. 1550,17?.
Be it known that l, Renner ZAHN, a suhject of the King of Bavaria, and resident ot Plauen, Germany, have invented a newvandv useful Device for Controlling Feed Meehana isms, of which the following is a full, clear, l
and exact specilication.
l Where 4leed mechanisms are used for certain purposes, asfor instance for the controlling of patterns in the [punching of the holes in the jacquardcard o chinos, it occurs that the member to he fed or controlled has to be moved according to a variable multiple of aY unit, and for the purose of temporarily securing the particular leed of this'memloer, it is common to use a controlling set of edged teeth (on the circumference of a whee or on a rod) oonnected with thismeniher and with which, after each feed of the member to hecontrolled, a
' so called positioning tooth is brought into enga ement. Vlt may occur, howeventhat the iced of the member to he controlled is such that the positioning tooth in its securi ing movement strikes just on the edge of one of the edged teeth of the controlling set, so that it is "unable to fall into the notch 'between `two teeth and in this particular case,
the desired control does not act. This disadvantage is remedied by the protective de-I vice for controlling feed mechanisms, which vforms 4the subject matter of the present invention, and which, like the known devices of this kind, shows a controlling set of edged teeth 'connected with the feed mechanism, as well as a positioning tooth coperating there with. ln the improved device, however, the positioning tooth is connected with its actuating lever by means of two small intermedi-I arrangement the desired protective control for the feed is obtained in any case, that'is to say,.the positiorningV tooth is always thdnst into the notch corresponding to the particular feed.
The accompanying drawing shows an ein embroidery n1ain side view, partly in section.
c is awheelprovided with edged-teeth fon l its periphery, which isto be considered aseo connected with 'the member'to be feder con# trolled, so as to be movable with it. r
b is the positioning tooth, which is inovodV i to and from the' wheat-a by means of an acto.-
ating lever d contro ed `by a grooved cam disk c. f 'lhe positioning tooth Za is 'carriedat its lower 'end hy ajbent lever e, which 1s con" trolled by la spring f 'and which is pivot'alljr attached to the actuating lever d. The posi l. tionng tooth is connected near its uppera 7o end with a compensatinglever g whic 'also pivotally attached-'to the actuating lever 1 By striking against 'a `nose piece 'i on the actuating lever 'al the compensating llever y f fixes thenormal position `of the osit-io'ning 75 tooth b, and the latter always ten ns to return to this position owing to the influence of fthe spring f. lf the wheel a is 'turned by exactly the amount equivalent to the pitch of the l `teeth, and the tooth 'b moved u 'against the so `wheel a, then the tooth b will Y Vnotch between two yteeth of thewheel 'and 'fall into' fa hold the latter fast. Shouldthewheel fa, however, have been so turned thatwhen the positioning tooth b comes into operation, its edge happens to4 strike against the edge of one of the teeth of the wheel a, then bythe l continued movement ofthe actuating lever `@Z against the wheel c, the positioning tooth y b,-in, consequence of its oscillatory connec- 49o tion with theintermediate levers e, g on theI main lever aZ-is forced to slide down from, the tooth edge of the wheel a into the posi-` .tion marked by a dotted line', and the positioning tooth b' then slips4 into the notch no while the tension of the spring f is being increased. The spring thereby influences the carrying levers e, g in such a manner that the rear end of the lever g is forced against .the nose piece c' of the 'man1 levend, whereby' 100V the wheel aiturns a little to the right and` the positionlng tooth b falls or penetrates exactly into the notch a: between twoteeth.
A secure positioning ofthe toothed wheel and of the feedrnember connected therewith is therefore insured even `in this particular case.
wherein@ is: 1. A device lor controlling feed mechanisms, comprising a controlling set of edged 11 teethI connected with the feed mechanism, a pos1t1on1ng tooth coperating therewith, ac-
bodilnent of the improved controlling devlice y tween the latter-and said actuating means` and automat-ic means for restoring the posi- 5 tioning. tooth to its normal position rela- /tively to said actuating means, so that when theA positioning tooth happens to impinge on the edge of onel of the edged teeth of said controlling set, it will be rocked to enter the notch between two teeth thereof and then be restored with the controlling set vof teeth to their normal positions.
A. jenes, comprising' a controlling set of edged '-teeth Yconnected with the feed mechanism, a
'positioning tooth cooperating therewith, an
`actuatinglever for the operation of said positioning tooth, a lever connection between the latter andl said actuating lever and elastic means for restoring the positioning tooth toits normal position relatively to said actuating lever, so that when the lpositioning tooth happens to impinge on the edge of one of the edged teeth of said controlling set, it will be rocked to-enter the `'notch between two teeth -thereof and then be restored with the controlling 'set of teeth to'thei'r normal 'positions Y '3. A. devicefor controlling feed mechanisms, comprising a controlling set of edged .teeth connected with the feed mechanism, a positionin tooth eoperating therewith, an actuating Ile sitioning tooth, two intermediate' levers carrying on the one hand the positioning tooth and pivoted on the otherl hand upon'said 22. A device for controlling feed mechan ver for the operation of said po- `aetuating'lever, and elastic means for restoring the positioning tooth to its normal position relatively to said 'actuating lever, so that when the positioning tooth happens to impinge on the edge of one of the edged teeth of said controlling set, it will be rocked to enter the notch-between two teeth thereof and then be restored with the controlling set of teeth to their normal positions.l
4. A device for controlling feed mechanisms, comprising a controlling set of edged teeth connected with the feed mechanism, a positioning tooth cooperating therewith, an actuating lever yfor the operation of said positionin'g tooth, two intermediate levers carrying on the one hand the positioning tooth and pivoted on the other hand upon said actuating lever, and ny controlling spring'acting upon one of said intermediate levers with the result of restoring the positioning tooth to its normal position relatively to said :1ctuat-ing lever, so that when the positioning tooth happens to impinge on the edge of one of the edged teeth of said controlling set, it
will be rocked to enter the notch between two teeth thereof, while the'spring tension thereby being increased tends to shift the positioning tooth with the controlling set of teeth to their normal positions.
ln witness whereof I have hereunto signed e my name this 21st day of February 1910, in
the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
