Description
A. LE MASSENA. THREAD CUTTER. APPLICATION IILBD JAN. 10, 1910.
Patented Aug. 9, 1910;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THREAD-CUTTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 9, 1910.
Application filed January 10, 1910. Serial No. 537,365.
To all whom it may concern:
a citizen of the United States, resident of and whose address is 34 Snowden Place, Glen Ridge, Essex county, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Im-- provement in Thread-Cutters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same.
My invention relates to thread cutters adapted to be attached to the front of the users clothing so that the user after sewing can conveniently draw the thread across the cutter and easily sever the thread close to the article sewed.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a thread cutter of this class which can bequickly and securely attached to and detached from the users clot-hing by an ordinary pin.
Another object of my invention is to pro vide a thread cutter of this class which will remain in effective position when used and can be very cheaply and expeditiously manufactured and packed for distribution.
In order that my invention may be fully understood, I shall first describe in detail the manner in which I make and use the same and then distinctly claim the invention.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification in which like parts are designated by the same numbers in both figures.
Figure 1, is a perspective view illustrating a thread cutter embodying my invention in use. Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the thread cutter detached.
I make my thread cutter of a single rectangular plate of hard sheet metal 10, the upper end of which is bent over at right angles, preferably in a die, to form a narrow inwardly projecting flange 11, which is formed with a perforation 12, in its center large enough to receive an ordinary pin 13,
, but not large enough to permit the passage Be it known that I, ANDREW Ln MASSENA,
of the pin head 141. From the upper middle I portion of the plate 10, is struck outwardly at right angles from its vertical side a triangular piece forming a blade 15, the upper edge 16 of which is inclined downwardly and inwardly from its rounded safe nose 17, to its V-like junction 18, with the plate 1.0, where it is sharpened so as easily to cut a thread drawn downward between it and the plate 10.
The user simply attaches the cutter to his or her clothing by passing an ordinary pin through the perforation 12, in the flange 11, into the clothing fabric, where the cutter, owing to the position of the blade in the upper middle of the plate 10, will securely maintain its most effective cutting position as the thread is drawn downward across the cutting edge 18, and will easily and quickly sever the thread.
As no pin is permanently attached to the cutter, these cutters can be closely and eX- peditiously packed together and unpacked without danger of injury to the packer or user, and the expense of their manufacture is very small.
Having thus described my invention and the manner in which I make and use it, I claim as my invention As a new article of manufacture, a thread cutter comprising a base plate, having a blade integral therewith, the cutting edge of which extends at an acute angle from the base plate, and the upper portion of the base plate bent at a right angle and provided with a central perforation.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand the 1th day of January 1910.
ANNA B. CARROLL, THOMAS F. KILRon.
