Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jul is. mic.
Application filed August 14, 1908. Serial No. 448,763.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, LU'IGI CAMEO, a subject of King Victor Emmanuel 111 of Italy, and residing at No. 427 East Fourteenth street, city, county, and State "of New York, have invented a new and useful Smoking.- Filter for the Removal of the Impurities from 'lobacoo-Smoke, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a smokin filter device of two equal strips: one of b otting paper, the other of cotton texture, superimposed and formed into a small cylindrical roll which is covered by a small tube of water-proof paper.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of a cigar showing my improved filter partially in section embodied therein. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of my filter partially rolled. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of my filter. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the complete filter.
In the drawings A represents the completed filter or cartridge formed of a strip of blotting paper B superimposed upon an equal strip of blotting paper G, and then rolled into a small compact cylindrical roll as shown in Fi 2 of the drawings. The filter roll thus fiormed is surrounded byv a tube or envelop D of waterproof paper or the like which is intended to prevent the moisture from the lips of the smoker reaching the material-of the filter, and also to prevent the odious impurities the filter from coming in smokers lips. In Fig. 1, I show the manner in which my filter is used in smoking a cigar, where the filter may be inserted after the cigar has been manufactured or may be embodied therein during the rolling of the same. In either event it is intended that a portion of the filter shall project from the end of the cigar, as shown and be grasped by the smokers lips or teeth, may be drawn through the filter completely purified before entering smokers mouth.
It is obvious that the use of this filter is not restricted to a cigar but may equally adand thus be the vantageously be used with a mouth-piece,
pipe, or cigarette.
I claim A composite smoking filter formed of layers of blotting paper and cotton texture in the form of a roll and provided with an envelop of water-proof paper substantially as described. LUIGI GAMPO.
