GAS-HEATER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 96,260, dated October 26, 1869.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HIRAM B. MUSGRAVE, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a certain Gas- Heating Stove, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a form of radiator to receive the heated emanati-ous of a gasburner and transit the heat thereof into the apartment, the said radiator being so constructed as to occupy very little room, and so as to radiate heat freely and voluminously into the apartment with very little heating up 0 the adjacent wall or wainscot.
Figure 1 is a perspective view (separated by two vertical sections) of a stove embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the upper part of the radiator. Fig. 3 is a top view of the base or stand.
A is a base or stand, of cast-iron, having three oblong flanges or necks-namely, a large one, B, in the middle, which is open at bottom, and two smaller ones, 0 0. closed at bottom, except in having a small aperture, 0, which discharges either into a pipe, D, communicatin g with the chimney, or into the room.
Fitting the necks, and rising vertically therefrom, are tubes or pipes E F F, of corresponding oblong transverse section, which tubes are surmounted by a cap, G, whose necks H I I enter the upper ends of the said tubes and communicate with each other by apertures J.
Each tube contains, parallel with its fiat side, a vertical partition, K L L,of which the partition K in the central tube is bent backward at its lower part and the partitions L L in the side tubes are bent backward at their upper parts, so as to compel the heated air and gas to hug and heat the front sides of the radiator and to leave the rear sides comparatively cool.
A gas-stove, M, of any approved form or style, is employed to generate the desired heat. Nisaregisteredopening,which beingopened exposes the flame to view.

While not restricting myself to flattened tubes, as herein described, itis proper to state that I prefer the same to a cylindrical form, because more sightly and projecting less inconveniently into the room, and because atfording a larger heating-surface in proportion to the capacity of the tubes.
