KEY GUIDE. APPLICATION FILED MAR.8,1909.

KEY-GUIDE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 31, 1910.
Original application filed November 30, 1908, Serial No. 465,034. Divided and this application filed March To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FLORA A. REFFELT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key-Guides, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to key guides and the object of my invention is to provide a device adapted to be arranged upon a door adjacent the key holes therein to facilitate finding of the key hole and the insertion of a key therein.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device as mentioned which shall be simple of construction, of low cost to manufacture, and one which may be readily attached or secured to any door or the key guard thereon.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a door with the lock and illustrating the key guide in position thereon, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device removed from the door, Fig. 3, a similar view of a modified form and Fig. 4 is a plan View of the blank from which the guide is formed.
The key guide is formed of a single thin strip of material, preferably malleable metal, and provided with a pair of lugs or cars which constitute means for attaching the device to a door or a lock, 1 indicating the strip and 2 the ears, the latter being provided with perforations 3 to receive the screws 4 by which it is attached in position. By making the device of a single blank as described they may be readily stamped out in large numbers and at low cost.
Serial No, 481,884.
The blank 1 is bent into a substantially V-shaped form and at the apex it is bent into cylindrical form the cylindrical portion being more than half the circumference forming a contraction 5 between the same and the preferably straight arms 66 of the V-shaped portion. The ears 2 are bent into a plane at right angles to the portion 1 as shown clearly in Figs. 2 and 3. As shown in said figures the ears may be turned inwardly or outwardly as desired. When the device is formed of malleable metal it may be readily shaped to suit any key hole or look before attaching the same thereto, and the ears 2 are triangular in form with the longest leg extending along the arms 6--6 for the greater portion of their length, thereby forming a rigid device which will not be readily bent out of shape or position, even though made of thin and readily bendable material.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A blank for forming a key guide comprising a single strip of flexible sheet metal of uniform width throughout and provided with laterally projecting triangular perforated ears which extend from the ends thereof for a considerable distance, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
