To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ADA B. RIPPEroE, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Yellville, in the county of Marion, State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to envelops of the class wherein provision is made for preventing surreptitious access thereto, and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the efficiency and utility of devices of this character.

Vith this and other objects in View, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereafter shown and then specifically pointed out in the claim, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a view of the blank from which the envelop is constructed. Fig. 2 is a view of the envelop ready to receive its contents. Fig. 3 is a view of the envelop, fully closed and sealed, from the name or address side. Fig. 4: is a view of the envelop, fully closed, from the rear side. Fi 5 is a transverse section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.

The improved envelop is constructed from a single sheet of paper and comprises a body 10, having end flaps 11-12 foldable thereover and overlapping at their free ends, a back 13 foldable over the folded end flaps, the back flap having an extension 14: projecting from its outer edge and with a slit 15 near one end, a strap like structure 16 extending from the opposite end. Extending from the body 10 at the side opposite to the back flap 13 is a closure flap 17 The end flap 11 is provided with adhesive material 18, while the inner faces of the extension member 14, the strap 16, and the closure flap 17 are likewise provided with adhesive material indicated respectively at 19-20 21. The back flap 13 is provided with a row of perforations 22, adjacent to the extension flap 14 and likewise provided with perforations 23 adjacent to the slit 15. With a device thus constructed the envelop is produced by folding the end flaps 1112 over the body 10 and sealing them in this position by moistening the adhesive material 18,

then folding the back flap 13 over the folded end flaps.

The envelop will be sold in this condition. lVhen the envelop has received its contents, the closure flap 17 is folded over into the interior of the envelop and sealed to the folded end flaps. The end of the strap 16 is then sealed to the flap 17. The extension flap 1 1 is then tucked between the outer portion of the strap 16 and the body 10 and sealed to the latter, and the strap 16 sealed upon the flap 14:. The portion of the strap between the slit 15 and the adjacent end of the envelop is exposed, and this exposed portion of the strap is provided with perforations 24:. The stamp and return address are placed on the strap, as shown.

The various perforations weaken the structure, so as to render it more liable to fracture in event of any attempts being made to surreptitiously open the envelop. By this means it will be obvious that an envelop is produced which effectually protects the contents, and which cannot be opened without detection.

The envelop may be of any required size or of any required material, and it is not desired therefore to limit the invention to any specific form or any specific quality of the material from which it may be constructed.

What is claimed is An envelop comprising a body, end flaps extending from the body, a back flap extending from the body at one side and provided with a slit near one end and a strap extending having a folding flap extending from its outer side and said back flap having a closure flap extending from its outer side, said end flaps being foldable over the body and sealed at their overlapping ends, said back flap being foldable over the folded end flaps, said strap being foldable over the body with its outer portion inserted through the cleft The strap 16 is then folded from the other end, said body face of the body 10, and its of the back flap and the inserted portion In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature,
