HARRY W. CADWELL, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO FREDERICK STEARNS 8n COMPANY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICHIGAN.
ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 3, 1910.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY W. GADWELL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanyin drawings.
The invention relates to an advertising novelty in the form of a container adapted to be filled with material, as for instance perfume and the like,'and to be distributed in numbers for advertising purposes, the container having associated therewith suitable advertising matter, and the invention consists in the novel construction of the novelty, in the peculiar arrangement and combination of parts and in various details of construction as will be more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings,Figure 1 is a erspective View of the advertising device; 4 ig. 2 is a vertical central section therethrough; Fig. 3 is a View of the label-carrying member detached; and Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the device shown in Fig. 2.
In the drawings thus briefly described, A designates the container, which is preferably in the form of a small sized bottle or tube having one end rounded, constituting the bottle bottom, and the open end drawn out into an elongated tapering neck B. A suitable cap, as C, may be employed toclose the neck end of the bottle, which cap may be made of flexible material, such as rubber, if desired.
The container may be filled with some transparent fluid, as perfume, and a body or object as D is located therein and within the fluid, the body being preferably adapted to bear advertising matter. In its preferred form, a label as E is used on which the advertising matter is placed, and this is applied directly to the body and preferably within the latter, the body as herein shown being a hermetically sealed capsule of glass.
In forming the novelty, the capsule is first constructed with an open end, the label inserted, and the bod sealed. The capsule is then inserted wit in the container, and subsequently the tapered neck is formed upon the container, the shouldered portion F serving to retain the capsule during the discharge of the fluid. The container is then filled, the cap applied to the neck, and the novelty is complete.
In the preferred form of the advertising device described, the capsule is made relatively large, so as to occupy the major portion of the interior of the container, roper. Thus, the advertisin sample has t e appearance of being 0' a considerable size, while but a small quantity of fluid is actually used, owing to the size of the capsule. The placing of the advertisement when in card or label form within the hermetically sealed capsule or tube revents the same from being injured, so t at the person receiving the sample will constantly have the advertising article in front of him undestroye'd.
WVhat I claim as my invention is,
1. An advertising device, comprising a stoppered container of transparent material, and a movable advertising medium therein occupying the major portion of the container interior.
2. An advertising device, comprising a transparent fluid container, a sealed hollow transparent body or capsule arranged Within the container, the capsule being of a size to occupy the major portion of the container interior, and a label within the capsule.
3. An advertisin device, comprising an elongated glass bott e, terminating in a narrow neck portion, an elongated sealed glass capsule therein of a size to occupy the major portion of the bottle interior, and a label within the capsule adapted to bear advertisin matter.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY W. CADWELL.
