To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE BRADLEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Grants Pass, in the county of Josephine and State of Oregon, have invented a new and Improved Pipe, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to pipes for smoking tobacco and the like, and more particuother forms, for example, as a cigar or cigarette holder.

The pipe can be fashioned from any suitable material, though I prefer to form the bowl and stem integral with one another, and from brier wood or other like material, and to form the mouthpiece from rubber. The core is preferably fashioned from porcelain, though any other material adapted for the purpose can be used equally well.

I have shown for example, in the accompanying drawings, a straight pipe, but I do not wish to limit myself to this or any other one particular shape or form.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, I provide a pipe bowl 1() having integral therewith a stem 11 having a bore 12 communicating with the interior of the pipe bowl through two openings 13 and 1a respectively. rihe mouthpiece 15 is removably associated with the stem in any convenient manner, for example, by having the end positioned within a retaining ring 15 located on the end of the stem and projecting beyond the same. The mouth-piece has a bore 17.

The core 18 has a substantially cylindrical part 19 which fits removably within the. bore 12 of the stem, and a tapered part 20 which is normally located wit-hin the bere 17 of the mouth-piece. The core at the upper side has a channel 21 which conn cates with the opening` 155 to permit l to iiow from the bowl through the n the mouth of the smoker. The cil l larly to a device of this class comprising a bowl or tobacco holder, a stem, and a mouthpiece removably associated with the stem, and a core located within the stem and the mouth-piece and having a channel permitting the passage of smoke, the core being provided with means for trapping oil or other fluid from the tobacco, and also constituting means for preventing the flow of saliva from the mouth of the smoker to the bowl.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and durable pipe, which is so arranged that it can be easily taken apart to permit it to be thoroughly cleaned, which prevents the passage of oil or other fluid into the mouth of the smoker, which prevents the fiow of saliva into the bowl, l which obviates the necessity of using antiseptic cartridges or the like for absorbing the nicotine, and which renders smoking more healthful, dry and pleasant.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fullyI` described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a partof this specification, in which similar characters of refl l l l l part of the core at the under side has a second channel 22 communicating .vith the opening 1a of the bowl. This channel constitutes a trap to receive and retain the oil or other fluid escaping from the tobacco. The channels 22 and 12 are connected by transverse, preferably diagonal passages Z3 which constitute conduits to permit the fluid from the tobacco to escape into the passage 22 should the opening 14; become clogged. The passages 23 also serve as traps to retain the liquid. rlhe channel Q2 terminates at the last of the passages 23. rPhe core at the end within the mouth-piece has a cutaway part 24 which, together with a stop 25, located within the mouth-piece at the end thereof, constitutes a trap to retain any saliva escaping from the mouth of the smoker into the mouth-piece. Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of my invention, it should be clearly understood that while I prefer to embody the same in the shape of a pipe it can also be used in connection with similar devices for smoking tobacco and the like in I prefer to Fig. 2 is an end view is preferably wedge-shaped and inclined, as is shown clearly in Fig. 5.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

l. A device of the class described, comprising a bowl, a stem, said bowl having two separate opening's communicating' interiorly with said stem, a mouth-piece removably associated with said stem, and a core within said stem and said mouth-piece, said core having a channel extending the entire length thereof and communicating with one of said openings, said core further having a channel extending' part of the length thereof and communicating with the other of said openings.

2. A device of the class described, comprising a bowl, a stem, said bowl having two separate openings communicating' interiorly with said stem, a mouth-piece removably associated with said stem, and a core within said stein and said mouth-piece, said core having' a channel extending the entire length thereof and communicating with one of said openings, said core further having a channel extending part way of the length thereof and communicating with the other of said openings, said core having a transverse passage connecting said channels.

A device of the class described, comprising a bowl, a stem, said bowl having' two separate openings communicating interorly with said stem, a mouth-piece removably associated with said stem, and a core within said stem and said mouth-piece, said core having a channel extending the entire length thereof and communicating with one of said openings, said core further extending part way of the length thereof and communicating with the other of said openings, said core having a plurality 0f transverse diagonal passages connecting said channels, said core further having a part cut away at the end within said mouth-piece, said mouthepiece at the end having a stop there within constituting with said cut away partI of said core a saliva trap.

4. A device of the class described, comprising a bowl, a stem having a substantially cylindrical bore, said bowl having two separate openings communicating with said bore, a mouth-piece removably associated with said stem and having a tapered bore, and a core comprising av substantially cylindrical part and a tapered part and located within said stem and said mouth-piece, a channel extending the entire length thereof and communicating with one of said openings, said core further having' a channel extending part way of the length thereof and communicating with the other of said openings, said core further being provided with a plurality of transverse, diagonal passages connecting said channels and having at the tapered end a cut away part, said mout-hpiece having within the free end thereof an inclined stop.
