Application filed. April 29, 19552,
To all wilma 'it may concern.'
lilo il: ltnown that. l, hnnnnineit J'. Hubirrnncr, a eitizen ot the United States, resid ingY at Kalamazoo. iichiga-n, have invented certain new and usefulr improvements in (las-Lamps, ot which the following' is a speeiiieat ion.
This invention relates to .improvements in gas lamps.
The main objects of this invention are: First. to provide in a gas lainp, oi the inverted burner type. au improved arrange'- nient or the burners. Second, lo provide an improved construction and arrangement ot the parts whereby they are economical to produce and easily assembled. Third, to provide in a gas lamp.` anV improved arrange nient olf parts whereby the burners and valves are 'eadily accessible and' easily eared for when the lainpis inrnse.
lFurther objects, and objects relating' to strtnftural details` will detinitely appear from the detailed description to t'ollow.
l accomplish the objects otiny invention by the devices and means deseribed in the following speci'tleation.
rlhe invention is clearly delined and point;- ed out. in the elain'is.
fr structure embodyingl the features ot my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanyingdrawing, forming a part ot this specification. in which:
Figure l is a vertical central section olEv a struct-ure embodyingv the features ot my invention, thefgas delivery pipe and valve being' shown in itnll lines, the section being` laken on a lino corresponding to line l l of Fig. 3. Fig'. Q is a vertical eer lral seetion taken on a line correspendingI to line 2--2 ot Fig. 3, parts ot' the burner and burner tubes being shownl in Alull lines. Fig. 3 is an enlarged horizontal section tak-en on a line eorrespOndinei to line S 3 ot l.
ln the draw'ings, siinilar reference eharaeters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are laken looking in the direction et the little arrows at the ends ol" the section lines.
itellerringito the d waiving. l represents the ege-.s supply pipe. This pipe pgovidedlwith dei' endingl arms 2 and the arms heinel connected thereto by the T-coupling The arm Q is a gas deliver-y pil e, it being, in olleet7 an extension or part of the pipe l.
.itt the lower ond ot the arni al gas delivery ring a, a. strap-like hanger beingv provided for eonneeing the ringl to the arni l5, which is a duinnrv, and provided for sup porting,` the parts. The delivery et aus to the ring- 5 is controlled by the main burner val-ve fr the. details oil" which are not here illustrated as they itorin nopart ot the present invention.
'il provide a chimney which is arranged through the ring the chimney bein;r preterably formed oit lower and upper sections S and 9, respectively, the lower section beingv preferably mounted on` the inwardly-project-ingI arms l() on thev gas delivery ring, seeuring serews i3 being tapped into the rms troni the inside of the chimney. rihe upper section 9 is ad-iustably mounted relativeto the lower section, clip-like straps ist being arrai 'Hd to slidably engage the arins 2 and il. The upper end otthe lower section and the lower end ol the upper section preferably provided with registeringr` notches 1:3 and lo, respeetively5 to receive the. burner tubesili. These burner tubes are curved or bent, the bends 1S being;` adapted to be engaged in the notches ot the lower chimney section, see Fifi'. l and `when the upper chimney section in` its operative position, it engages these bends and assists in. retaining the burner tubes in positioin-fthat is,v they cannotbe slipped inwardly without. the upper section heine' raised. To prevent svv'ineine`V ot the inner ends o't' the burner tubes by which the burners are carried, l provide members 2O havingV outwardly-projecting arnis tliereon between which the burner tubes are. arranged The outer ends of the burner tubes preferably project through the outer easing' Q2. which is provided with slots to receive the saine, the
delivery ring being provided with ont.- wardly and upwardly-projecting delivery arms Q47 tor the inwardly directed nozzles thereon adapted to deliver to the lnirner tubes. ".Che nozzles are preferably provided with coupling` members 26 with which the burner tubes are adapted to telescope` the coupling' members having` air inlet openings Q7 therein. The valves Q8 are arranged through the arms to control the nozzles Vlie outer easingv 22' is also slotted at 29 to receive the main burner valve easingl T. This outer easing` is adjustably mounted on the gas supply pipe l, it being preferably provided wit-h a cap portion 30 arranged on the pipe, the body portion being connected to the cap portion by means of the straplilte members 31. The arm 32 is pivotally mounted on the gas supply pipe arm 3 so that it may be swung out to form a rest for the outer casing when in its elevated position. Then in its lower position, the casing rests upon the deflector plate 33 which is secured to the downwardly-projecting arms 34 on the gas delivery ring, the parts thus being connected to the gas supply pipe.
The globe supporting band 35 for the globe 36 is connected by the hinge 37 to the deflector plate 33. The globe is retained in its closed position by the pin 3S, which engages the arm 39, see Fig. 1. The details of the hinge and this supporting pin are not here illustrated.
The mantles 40 are preferably carried by the support 41, which is provided with a supporting rod 42 arranged to be vertically adjusted in the bearing 43 provided therefor, a button 44 being provided for holding the mantle support in its operative position. As the details of this mantle support form no part of the present invention, I do not illustrate the same herein.
The deflector plate 33 is preferably spaced at its inner edge from the chimney to allow the passage of air into the globe and thence to the burners, the current thus being directed down the outside of the chimney. The plate could, however, be fitted to the chimney at its inner edge, and suitable apertures for the passage of air provided. By this arrangement of the parts, the burners are effectively supported and are all readily accessible, it being possible to remove any burner quickly for the purpose of renewal or cleaning.
My improved lamp is comparatively simple in the structure of the parts and they can be readily assembled. The parts are so arranged as not to impede the circulation of air about the parts of the chimney which become heated in operation. At the same time, the air supply for the burners is not contaminated by the products of combustion.
I have illustrated and described my improvements in detail in the form in which I have embodied them. I am, however, aware that they are capable of considerable variation in structural details without departing from my invention, but as such variations will readily appear to those skilled in the art to which this invention relates, I have not attempted to illustrate or describe them in detail.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
