Description

W. JACOBS & P FORSCHLER.
SUSPENDER BUCKLE.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 27, 1909.

sans Paras SUSPENDER-BUCKLE.
Application filed September 27, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WOLF JACOBS and PHILIP FoRsonLnR, citizens of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, iave invented new and useful Improvements in Suspender-Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention pertains to buckles, and consists in the peculiar and advantageous combined buckle and picture holder hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim appended.
In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification: Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view showing the buckle and picture holder combined in use on a portion of a pair of suspenders. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged rear perspective view of the buckle with the picture therein. Fig. 4: is a sectional view illustrative of the manner in which a picture is introduced to position in the lever of the buckle.
Similar letters designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings, referringto which:
A is a suspender portion.
B is the frame of the buckle, which is connected with the suspender portion A in the conventional manner, and C is the buckle lever, located in front of the frame B and pivoted to the upper side thereof in position to enable its preferably-toothed clamping flange D to coact with the upper edge or top of the lower side of the frame in holding the suspender portion A. The major portion of the lever G is in the form of a plate, and when the lever is positioned to engage and hold the suspender portion, said major portion rests in a depending position in front of the suspender portion. In the plate-like major portion of the lever is an opening E through which the picture F is displayed, and at its rear side and on its lower and side edges said major portion is provided with inwardly-directed retainers G which are integral therewith.
In placing the picture F in the plate-like portion of the lever G, the picture, which is thin and flexible, is curved and moved past the clamping flange D and into engagement with the side retainers Gr, after the manner illustrated in Fig. 4., and when the lower edge of the picture is seated in the base re- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 22, 1910.
Serial No. 519,829.
tainer G, the upper edge thereof is moved into a position below the clamping flange D, whereupon the picture will be secured in position by said flange and in such manner that there is no liability of the picture being casually displaced. From this it follows that the flange D serves the two-fold function of clamp and picture-retainer.
It will be gathered from the foregoing that the picture is displayed to advantage while the buckle is in use, see Fig. 2, and that it serves to enhance the neat appearance of the buckle; also, that the picture is secured in the major portion of the buckle lever in such manner that the thickness of the said major portion is not appreciably increased, which is manifestly advantageous. It will further be gathered that our novel buckle is susceptible of being produced quite as cheaply as a buckle of corresponding character having no picture holding capacity, and can be made of any material, in any shape or form.
Having described our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
In a combined suspender buckle and picture holder, the combination of a frame adapted to be connected with a suspender portion and having an upper side of circular form in cross-section, and a lever formed of a single piece of sheet-metal and having portions bent around the said upper side of the frame to pivotally connect the lever thereto, a plate-like major portion in which is an opening and on the lower and side edges of which at its back are inwardlydirected picture retainers, and also having, intermediate said bent portions and on its upper edge, a combined clamping flange and picture retainer that extends rearward and slightly downward from said upper edge for the two-fold purpose of engaging the suspender portion and holding a picture in the retainers at the back of the major portion of the lever.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
