Description

J. B. BROGHU, GARMENT HANGER} APPLICATION FILED 001 .18, 1909.
I Paqtenteui Mar. 22, 1910.
00 PNDTOUTNOGRAP @NKTED iPATENT @FFKQE JOHN B. BROCI-IU, OF BRIDGEWATER, MASSACHUSETTS.
GARMENT-HANGER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. BRooHU, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgewater, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garnient-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment hangers, and comprises a hanger adapted for supporting a plurality of garments thereon, such as a coat, vest, hat, and one or more pairs of trousers; or it may be used for holding a ladys coat and skirts.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved device for the intended purpose, a particular feature of which is that it is so constructed as to maintain the shape of the shoulder of a coat hung thereon, having a form which fits into the shoulder and holds the same in distended position.
By the use of the device a number of garments may be hung and held in proper place and position by a single hanger, as more fully explained hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, garments thereon being indicated in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a dii 'crcnt perspective view.
Referring specifically to the drawings, it will be seen that the hanger is composed of one or more pieces of wire bent to the shape to be hereinafter described and fastened together in a suitable manner.
6 indicates a vertical or substantially vertical bar at one side of the hanger, having at the top a hook 7 by which it may be hung on a nail, rod or the like, and at the extremity of said hook is another hook 8 to receive the loop at the neck of a coat when the same is hung on the hanger. The lower end of the bar 6 is conveniently bent laterally to form a lower bar 9 which is joined at its outer end to a ring 10 having the form or outline of the armhole of a coat. The loop is also connected to the bar 6 by brace wires 11, 12, and 13, which are attached at various positions around the loop for the purpose of supporting the same and for giving a shoulder shape to the hanger, that is, a shape which will fit in the shoulder cavity in a coat.
At the lower corner of the hanger, at the end of the bar 9 opposite to the loop 10, is
' a spring clip 14, conveniently formed by bending the wire of one of the lower bars Specification of Letters Patent.

to form a spring clip of ordinary construction. The purpose of this clip is to engage the lapels of a coat placed on the hanger. The device also includes a bar 15, in the lower part thereof, extending from the corner referred to to the ring 10, and this bar 15 is provided at or about the middle thereof with a segmental portion 16 produced by bending the wire and which serves to hold a hat which can be pushed in and held in place within the frame, resting on said semicircular piece. Between the semicircular part and the ends of the wire 15 the latter is bent to form notches 17 which serve to hold the spring clips 18 which are looped over said wire, and the purpose of which is to hold trousers or skirts. The clips can be adjusted to various notches according to the width of the garment, to hold said garment in fiat position, said clips engaging the trousers or skirt at the waist band and allowing the same to hang in flat position from the hanger. One of the upper bars 12 is also provided with a hook 20 to engage a vest and to hold the same on a hanger.
In the use of the device a vest may be doubled, as usual, with the fronts together and then placed on the hanger, the shoulder form fitting in the shoulder of the vest, the neck of which is caught on the hook 20. In similar manner a coat may be applied, that is, the coat is folded inside out with the lapels together, one shoulder being pushed into the other, as usual when coats are stacked, and the coat is then put 011 the hanger with the ring 10 fitting in the arm or shoulder space, and the neck loop of the coat is then caught on the hook 8, which holds the coat in posit-i011 on the hanger. The lapels of the coat are then gripped by the clip 14 which holds the coat flatly on the hanger. Trousers or skirts can be hung from the clips 18 as above described. A hat is supported by slipping the same into the frame between the wires thereon, resting on the curved part 16.
The device can be made wholly of wire and will maintain the shape of the garments besides supporting several garments on a single hanger.
I claim 1. A garment hanger comprising a bar at one side, a ring at the opposite side, bars connecting said bar and the ring and located at various points around the same to make a form adapted to fit in the shoulder of a coat or the like, and clips engageable with I side, and upper and lower cross Wires conthe garment to hold the same on the form. necting said Wire and ring, one of the lower 2. A garment hanger comprising a bar at Wires having a curved part adapted to hold one side, having a hook at its upper end and a hat.
5 a clip at its lower end, and a shoulder-form In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature )5 made of spaced Wires and projecting laterin presence of two Witnesses. ally from the bar, to fit in the shoulder of a JOHN B. BROCHU. coat or the like. Witnesses:
3. A garment hanger comprising an up- JosEPH VALADE,
'-- 10 right Wire at one side, a ring at the opposite LoUIsE C. ARENTZEN.
