To 'whom titane/ 1fconcertar` Be it known .that I, JDNEs HARDING, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne, and State of Michigan, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Bedstead.;

andI do declare that the 'following is atrne'and accurate description` thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, `and being a part-of this specilication.

The4 nature of this invention relates to the construc-` tion of a bed audbed-bottoni, in such a manner that it can easilybe taken apart and packed for shipment.

All of its-parts being of wire, it forms au easy couch, l and precludes theintrusion of vermin.

Y A, in thedrawings, represents awire of proper sizel andlength, bent into a rectangular form, with its ends joined together to form the bed-frame,its longer sides being providedwith an'inne longitudinal rod, iB.

Acentral longitudinalrod, C, is also rigidly secured to the shorter sides oftheframe.

The frame so constructed is sustained by a series of supports, D, bent in the form shown in the drawings;

" and hinged at'the` crownof their arches to the siderods B and central rod G, and maintained in a vertical o position by the diagonal hook-braces G, pivoted on the longitudinal bars B and O, and which, when necessary, may be unhooked l from the' supports, and allow4 them. to'be'folded up against the bed-bottoms The frame is braced and prevented from twisting' by `diagonal rods-E, passing from theends' to the sides,

and rigidly secured to all the longitudinal'rod's of the frame. Y

'lhe ends of these diagonal rods are bent upward,

` to form the hooks F, which engage with and secure',

the side-rails of the bed in position.

t A series of wire springs, Hpartially coiled in their central parts, extends diagonallyaeross the bed-name, from corner to, corner andjcentreto centre thereof, at which'points they are' secured to the same, and form aaportion of thefoundatiofot the bed-bottom, which is completed by a number of similar springs I, moving transversely on the longitudinal rods B and C. i These transverse springs are somade movable, that they may be placed wherethe `superimposed weight is -the greatest, toprevent saggingfat that particular point.

The headand foot-boards J J and side-rails L L',

`are formed into any required shape, vand composed of. i'

wires woven into any plain or fancy design, with the ends of their horizontal wires bent intoloops.

The superstructure being placed on the bed-frame, with the lower rods of the side-rails L L' engaging with the hooks' F on "the frame, the whole .is firmly secured thereto by rods passing down through the loops at the ends of the side-rails andl head and footboards into the sockets made forthat purpose in the vcorners of the frame A.

If desired, each pair of these rods may be made in one piece, to form anJ arched frame M,M foi-'supporting a mosquito-bar, as shown in the drawings.

The central longitudinal rod C is placed in the bed for the purpose of preventing the same from sagging on one side whenthe bed is occupied by a light and a heavyperson. What `I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The frame A, when provided with the longitu-A dinal rods B and-C, and diagonal rods E, the supports D, and hook-braces G, arranged and operating substantially as described, and for the purposes spe'ced. 2. The combination and arrangement of the .frame A, longitudinal rods B and 0,:supports D,difagonlal rods E, hooks F, diagonal hook-,braces G, spring-sup- -ports H and I, head and foot-boardsv J J', side-rails L L', and arch-rods M M', when constructed and operi 4 ating substantially as herein described, and for the purposes specified.
