HENRY G. CARTER. OF GOOD GROUND. NEW YORK.
COPY-BOOK.
Application filed February 2, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, llnxnr Cinema, a citizen of the United States, residii'ig at Good'Ground, Long Island, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful therein and a plurality of leaves loosely ongaged with the slotted sheet, and so constructed as to be held against disengagement downwardly theretln'ough.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a copy book having slitted folder strips adapted to receive copy paper slidably therein, and adapted to be viewed .lrom either side without re-adjustment of the paper therein.
Another object is to provide a novel cover for the book adapted to retain the copy paper against accidental displacement.
Another important object is to provide copy paper of a peculiar form adapted to yieldably resist sliding movement before use.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description and it will be understood that changes in the specilic structure shown and described may be made within the. scope of the claims, and that any suitable n'nrterials may be used without departing froin the spirit of the in vention.
In the drawings it'orming a portion of this specification, and in which like inunerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a plan view of the book with the pages of copy paper removed, Fig. 2 is a plan view of one sheet of the book with a copy slip secured thereon, Fig. 3 is a similar view of the opposite side of the sheet illustrated in Fig. 2, Fig. t is a plan View of the back or right hand cover page I of the copy book, Fig. 5 is a plan view of one of the copy sheets, Fig. (5 is a plan view of a modified means for securing the copy slip upon the sheets. Fig. 7 is a vertical section taken on the line 7-7 of Fig. l.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 1, 1910.
Serial No. 475.626.
a book comprising a cover 10 and secured upon the cover in any suitable manner, and extending entirely across the same at the upper edge thereof there are a plurality of narrow slips ll, each having centrally thereof a longitudinal slit 12 having circular enlargements 13 at each end. As shown at the right in Fig. l, the slips 11 have inscribed on their front sides above the slot 12 a suitable line of copy to be reproduced by the pupil. Inserted through the slot 12, for vertical sliding movement therethrough, there is a sheet of copy paper 14L having at its upper end laterally projecting spaced tabs 15 and 1G. The tab 15 is rounded and projects to a lesser distance than the tab 16, being spaced from the end of the copy sheet and engaged with the slip 11 below the slot 12; the tab 16 being engaged above the slot. 12. Thus, it will be seen that the paper is held positively against downward movement through the slot, but yieldably for vertical sliding movement, which may be accomplished by pressing toward each other the opposite vertical edge portions of the sheet l t, and sliding it upwardly.
The rear faces of the slips 11 are provided with copy inscribed on their lower portions beneath the slot 12, as shown at the left of Fig. 1, so that it may be viewed and reproduced by the scholar in the same manner that the copy of the opposite side is imitated.
Formed adjacent the opposite vertical edges of the rear cover page, there are inwardly projecting tongues 18, flexibly engaged over the copy sheets 14 to prevent their lateral movement within the book as will be understood. In the construction of the book, it is desirable to use for the rear retaining page sheet material of suitable stiffness and durability, and it will. be readily appreciated that sheet aluminum would be desirable. The book is adapted to be used continuously by simply renewing the sheets of copy paper, so that the expense of books of instruction for this purpose is materially reduced.
There is shown in Fig. 6 a modified form of the book, in which the copy sheets are provided with late ally projecting tabs, disposed at their upper ends to prevent downward movement through the slots 12. In conjunction with this form of the copy sheet, the slips 11 are provided with vertical slits 21 beyond the ends of the slot 12, in which the tabs 16 are inserted after the sheet is engaged properly through the slot 12. Thus I through the slits and held yieldably against the sheets are held flexibly against casual disengagement from the slips 11.
What is claimed is 1. A copy book having a plurality of horizontally slitted slips therein, and vertically slidable copy sheets relnovably held therein.
2. A copy book including a plurality of horizontally slitted slips, and vertically slidable copy sheets disposed through the slits, said sheets having laterally projecting tabs engaged beyond the slits to hold the sheets yieldably against disengagement from the slits.
8. A copy book including a plurality of horizontally slitted slips, having a copy on one side above the slits, and a second copy on the opposite side below the slits, and a vertically slidable copy sheet disposed detachment therefrom.
A. A device of the class described comprising a cover portion, a plurality of horizontally slitted slips secured thereon, copy sheets engaged slidably through the leaves, and tabs carried by the cover, and engaged flexibly over the copy sheet.
5. A device of the class described includ ing a plurality of horizontally slitted slips and sheets slidably engaged through the slits, the sheets having projecting tabs integrally formed upon opposite edges thereof.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two Witnesses.
